Important Update for International teams! 17 years at International Open 5 only applies to USA teams. This does not apply to non-USA teams.

thought you'd like to know :)

If we are going to have International Teams in the US then follow the International Rules. This just makes the USASF look stupid especially since they said not 6 months ago that a 14 year old could compete at Worlds since that was the International rule.:banghead:

So question to anyone who knows how the USASF works better than I do...
What are the chances they will change their mind? Can they afford not to with how many people are upset? What next?
@NJcoach is right. Change is in the air. If they stick to their guns then they will probably lose a lot of support. If they back down they'll lose any and all illusions of being in charge. Either way I see a big shift in power.

Les is suppose to get the rules committee together and have an answer to all of this no later then Monday. I think that with this blow up if they don't fix some of it then things will not pan out well for them.

ETA: They have already lost 1 member of their committee/group, Jamie Parrish, so that right there should scare them to do something.

I hope, though, that even if the rules don't go through as they are, the gym owners and coaches who are so passionate and united tonight don't stop at that, and continue to fight for a better situation for all of cheerleading!

Seriously, though, it's like whoever wrote these rules wasn't paying attention. I think they can claim "safety" and "image" all they want, but it doesn't hold any water.

No Mini 3? Great... my 6, 7, and 8 year olds will still throw their tucks with the Youth 3 team. Better yet, I'll just call the whole team "Youth 3".
Restrict all Youth 5 tumbling, restrict baskets, restrict pyramids? I'll just send my 10-12 year-olds with wicked awesome double fulls and sweet kick doubles to my Junior 5 team. Or... just call them "Junior 5".

The point is that if you have a Mini 3 team, chances are pretty high you have Youth 3 team. If you have a Youth 5 team, you probably have a Junior 5 team. And just to drive the point home - you can register them in any division since ONLY Senior has a bottom age.

Stop separating all-girl/co-ed Junior 3/4? So my all-girl team will just have to start throwing harder skills to hang with the co-ed teams, push my ratio up, so on and so forth. Safe? Oh yeah. I'll just lose all season.

No crop tops for Junior? AWESOME. So the 10-year old on Senior 2 can wear one but the 14 year-old on Junior 5 can't... or the 12 year-old on Youth 5. The uninformed spectators (which I think are actually pretty few...) will totally understand that we're trying to make our image better.

And then - to put the icing on the cake, they call out the "males" for "exaggerated and theatrical movements". Is this FOR REAL? Man, some of the best dancers I've seen on the floor are MALE and they are definitely theatrical. Does this lower the quality of the sport? Does it negatively impact our image to show that we appreciate EVERY SINGLE athlete? (Why don't you go ahead and call out the special needs teams for not performing level-appropriate skills? They are listed as level 3 in the age grid.)

[[The special needs comment is totally sarcastic. I love watching these teams and I'm so glad our sport is able to give them that opportunity!!]]

I say do what someone mentioned earlier... Compete in halter sports bras, big curly hair with 5 inch bows (maybe they should light up?) have ALL MALE FLYERS that will indeed shimmy as soon as they hit their ball up 360 triple tick-tock, and make the dance dance as "theatrical" as possible to show them boys off... WERK.

What's great about this idea is if gyms did do this, you know some scrubs will cross the picket line to go for an easy globe...ok fine, let craptastic allstars win worlds. Still the most prestigious event? I think not.

My dad told me to stay away from scabs (he was on strike once and had friends cross the picket line). Let them cross and win, they will be the ones that no one will want anything to do with. Have fun finding a choeographer right now who i willing to give them a routine.

Ok, I've read all 48 pages and listened to some of the call (hung up bc some people are annoying and don't know how to follow directions). What I take from this is A. Coaches get educated, not just bc you need to be educated but bc your lack of education endangers children. B. Athletes, be conscious that your actions on and off the mat have consequences so do the best you can to remember there are always eyes on you. I say this often to my kids, whether you are on or off the mat you are representing me, if I were standing next to you how would you act. C. I will close by thanking each and every person that has spoken up, whether you agree or disagree with this ruling I think we all agree that the way this was done was nothing short of absolutely HORRIBLE. There are WAY too many amazing people involved in all-star cheerleading (gym owners, coaches and even a good EP or two out there lol) that DESERVE the right to be heard and their opinions to be represented.
My team EARNED their bid to the U.S. All-Star Federation WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS so they DESERVE to be representing a FEDERATION!
