I'm a huge political junkie. Majored in Political Science with minors in business and English. As much of my major that I could take as history I did.

One of my all time favorite college classes was a joint science/history class. It met on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesday, the science teacher would spend 90 minutes talking about an experiment or discovery in detail. On Thursday, the history teacher would lecture about the world and politics around the time of the specific experiment or discovery. Loved that class.
I was a history major with a political science minor from NCState. You would've loved one of my polysci classes. "the history of political scandal" that one was awesome!

That's what I want to major in (besides the English) and another minor in law (I forget the correct term for it)

Since CE is is going to be at the Democratic convention, can Brandon perform at the Republican (it's in Tampa) Just so I can have an excuse to watch them put on a routine in person
you're going to the RNC? jealouss!

and for the record--i was raised by a democrat and a union member. my political views are mine only. i'm so sick of hearing people say i was brainwashed by my parents.

Hehe, No i'm not :p It's just about 30 minutes away from my house though. lol.

I don't have much to contribute to the original topic, other than hope SE has fun!

though to contribute to those debating whether or not they'd see Obama speak at their school... I am not an Obama supporter. (or republican - I vote for the green party, and most likely always will.) But about 10 years ago (when he was only in the Illinois senate) I had the chance to hear him speak. can i just say he is a phenomenal speaker? i have never seen someone be so captivating and passionate. It was just so enthralling and he really just drew you in no matter your beliefs.

No matter what your political/religious/moral/ethical views are, if you get the chance to see that man speak, take it!

If they were doing "go Obama" cheers I could see where the problem would be. But they are just exhibitioning as one of the worlds best which they are so what's the problem?

My family is strongly republican and I don't see a problem with this...

I don't have defined political views (some say I'm Democrat, some say Libertarian..yet I'm pretty fiscally conservative. Go figure.)..

All I saw was Cheer Extreme is having some girls perform at an event. Not necessarily the first event I would have imagined, but still pretty cool! I can just hear the crowd Ooohing and Aaahing. Throw in a Ball up 360 and you've got yourself a party! Reading political affiliations into is a bit much..unless they're sporting pro-Obama stickers or something.

That sounds really cool.

Thiswill be a generalization, but from what I've watched of American news..yes. Yes it does.

I think it's an amazing opportunity, regardless if its for democrats, republicans, tea party, communists, socialists or cheerocracy. They're not going to be up there saying "G-O Obama Lets Go!". Its to showcase the talent of NC. End of story.
I disagree. Whether CEA is a supporter of Obama or not...their presence at the convention conveys their support. Politics and cheer is not a good mix. Politics almost always divides a group not a positive thought in a community that can be polarized on so many cheer issues...ADD Politics and you are asking for trouble. It is inappropriate.

This could be taken in two ways by others. One: there going here and defining there political views. Two. There just taking this opportunity to showcase there talent in favor of Cheer and NC.

It is the second one but others might not think so.

You are probably right it might be the second one BUT their presence conveys support and that is the bottom line. My oldest daughter has strangely been a staunch republican supporter since she was 12. She would not have been able to bring herself to be a part of this...she is pretty extreme and most kids probably don't care but I bet there are many parents who do care and may feel put on the spot to comply.

I am just saying I do not think this is as innocuous as it sounds. I am sure there are parents and children who might not see this as harmless and ignoring their feelings .... is wrong. The flip side is I am quite sure no one is being forced to participate but that just adds a whole new dimension to not being a team player. The whole thing just feels wrong on so many levels.
