They will not pull up a vine video of you twerking to deny you admittance into grad school, and they shouldn't do it for a job either. What you do in your personal life IS and ALWAYS should be separate from you work life. They are two completely different things.

Sorry but social media is routinely reviewed before an interview is even scheduled.

I don't get how they can ban twerking on vine or any other social media, but they're aloud to get out on the floor in front of judges and shake their butts? Sounds sort of hypocritical. While I do agree that they should be punished if they're doing ANYTHING inappropriate in gym attire, in uniform, or anything with the gym logo on it, they can't really control what they do outside of that.

If I was only seeing some underage athletes in practice clothes or whatnot, I wouldn't be so onboard with the ban but seeing a lot of just the birthday cakes. INAPPROPRIATE. If someone sees something my CP does like that, I assure you, tell me. I have even posted to Facebook that I am a parent who wants to know if I miss something. Because sometimes, like as in the above mentioned statement, I don't know if that parent wants to know. Maybe they do know and thought what???? IDK.

In this day when many people are applying for one job and both are qualified, social media can and will make an impact on who gets a job! Kids do not realize that what is put on social media remains on social media forever!

Who says they're going to go shake their butts on stage? You don't have to be inappropriate to win or score well in dance... And the difference is the gym has control over their choreography and how age appropriate it is, so obviously what they put in the routine, they believe is okay..... They don't think twerking is okay/appropriate/a good way to represent the gym which is why they're banning it from social media. They're not putting 8 year olds on stage twerking if they're not supposed to do it outside the gym...

Yes but a lot of gyms incorporate some type of butt shaking or to some "inappropriate dancing" to their routine. And it's considered fierce and amazing then. I'm just saying as long as they aren't doing it in anything that represents the gym they really can't control what their athletes do.

I really did not want to be the one to have to say this. I think part of the issue is more than simply the butt shaking or the stripperness. I think it (at least for me) is inappropriate because of the position you must assume in order to twerk. It's a very sexual position. In the same way that a guy grabbing a girl a pelvic thrusting towards her in a dance would be inappropriate, not necessarily because of the pelvic thrust but because of the positioning and the sexual connotation

personally i do have a problem with the amount of twerking vines (especially the 10 year olds), and i really do think its completely inappropriate, however i could be the only one but i have never watched a video and thought "oh my god they cheer at ____? wow that program looks terrible". i personally have never connected it to the gym, because normally it is in no way connected. i do think it looks extremely unclassy on the PERSON, but i personally feel it doesn't do anything to the gym (unless its filmed in the gym with an entire mini team twerking with their coach..) just my opinion though!
BUT if say a "cheerlebrity" such as Jamie Andries were to post an Instagram video or vine of her twerking, yes that is unclassy as a person, but do you realize how many little girls look up to her and want to be just like her? So in a way it does connect to a gym because then people would think "wow, did you hear someone at CA posted a video of them twerking and it got all kinds of attention" etc etc. so in a way it reflects bad on a gym because you want your athletes to have morals, respect, class, etc., whatever you want to call that.

They can control what their athletes do. They imposed restrictions and if those rules are broken there are consequences, including removal from the team. It's just like a drug policy, except easier to patrol.

When I first got Facebook in 8th grade (I think) I was so paranoid that I wouldn't get into college or a job because I thought all my dumb middle school posts would come back to haunt me. So, now I always think before I post and before I graduate college I'm going to make sure my social media accounts are private or I'm just going to delete them all together because I don't really use them all that much.

But it's not an industry wide ban. It's for a specific gym. Obviously that type of dancing is not approved of at the gym. So they created this rule. It doesn't matter if some random other gym puts butt shaking in their routine... They don't have this rule so it's not hypocritical. And you're always representing your gym to the public and should keep social media clean. We don't have a twerk ban but you know if we all made a twerk video we'd be in trouble because its a bad representation of our gym. And we're old enough to know that.

....I just want to say that twerking didn't originate in a strip club....sure some strippers at a strip club in Atlanta may have perfected the "art" to The Ying Yang twins or something....but those strippers didn't invent it.

I also want to say that while twerking is raunchy, vulgar and inappropriate etc....I can say the same (IMO) for several dances, uniforms, stills from a certain stunt sequence etc in Cheerleading.

But whatever. If this is what this gym needs to do, the by all means. Go forth. I hope the kids take heed and listen. But I doubt banz will make them stop dancing (shutout to anyone that got that).

Anyway. I blame Miley Cyrus. We need To put a stop to her.
