But people often ignore the consequences with the 'not my child' attitude. Been there, done that. Watch my kid live it now

I would hope that both coaches and parents could recognize when the athlete is physically/mentally exhausted & pull them off a team or two.

But I can see the other side of the argument, a kid doesn't want to let a team down, etc. etc. I think it really varies from person to person. Some can handle it, some can't. As long as the athlete is being trained, observed and communicated with properly, I don't see the issue. Just my opinion :)

why does everyone think crossing over is a huge deal? we have some kids on 5 or 6 teams, one or two of those teams are worlds teams. (cheer and dance so it is not illegal) there are never any complaints.
I don't think it is a huge deal I just personally think that double teaming (on cheer teams only not cheer and dance) can sometimes be overworking your body especially when doing it all year long. It really can take a toll on your body. It also takes a lot of commitment from both the athlete and parent. I think 2 is enough. 3 seems like a lot!

They won't.

If there is one thing I've learned about youth sports, it's that very rarely are decisions made based on a child's well being.

Things that affect decision making regarding children:
-Finances
-Bragging (on the parent's part usually - most often in 2 forms: either "complaints" about how exhausting it is or claiming that Susie is needed to "help out" on the lower teams)
-Attention
-Winning
-Keeping Susie happy

Health and emotional well being are rarely factors until they become impossible to ignore.

This is so crazy to me. I'm not a parent, nor do I really spend time around parents of youth sport participants, but I cannot believe that those are the deciding factors. I hope that people will realize soon that this pattern isn't influencing anyone positively lol

I don't think most realize they are doing it. I think it's more like someone else said - "It won't happen to my child."

They just see that smile on Susie's face and go with it. And then the "Wow! I don't know how you do it" comments start... and mom is hooked. Plus no one wants to be "that mom" - that goes against the gym and limits what Susie can do.

5 or 6?? WHAT??? That's insane and definitely too much for a young athletes body. Not only that, there's most likely sandbagging going on

One thing about the whole triple/quadruple teaming to me, is that it seems like you'd burn out a lot quicker. If you've got your kid on 4 teams every year from the time they're 7 or 8, by the time they're eligible for a worlds team or go to worlds once or twice, they'll be over it completely, both physically and mentally. Just my two cents.

i cannot explain the athletes on more than one worlds team or the level 5s on 3s or 2s. but, if i understood correctly, should you choose not to crossover at CEA, you will be placed on your primary age group team only. like the youngest age group you can be on. so if you opt not to crossover, you could turn 15 on September 1st and only be on Junior Elite, and thats not okay with a lot of people since worlds is the end all, be all. it's just the culture of the gym. not my favorite, but also not against the rules. but the chances of burnout and injury triple with every extra team, IMO.

Ahh yes. The "tired brag." Sort of like the "humble brag" when you don't want to be "that mom who brags."

Instead of saying, "Jenna is amazing for being on 3 cheer teams and 4 dance groups" you'd say:

"Gee whiz, Jenna is SOOOO tired these days between Junior 4, Youth 4, Junior 4.2, Youth 2, Hip hop, jazz solo, and modern trio, and all while being on Honors Track at school. I don't know how she juggles it all."

I have no problem with crossovers. My issue is when one crosses over to more than two teams. It can be super tough on your body! If you are able to manage the commitment by handling the pain it can cause your body and being able to keep up with school work at the same time...good for you! I just personally wouldn't be able to do more than two teams all year long and I think it's not very smart to have an athlete on more than two teams.

When I was cheering for a small gym it was common to have girls on our senior 4 crossover to our senior 2. One year we had an athlete do j3 and senior 4 and you could noticible tell she was exhausted, her stunt for s4 never hit and she ended dropping j3 to hit. She based j3 and was a true s4 flyer/tumbler and competing in less than an hour was tough.

I did dislike having a girl on my team crossing over to base on level 3 who was a true level 2 athlete, when in fact there was a true level 3 athlete on S2.....me.

Thread about CEA = a thread about sandbagging.

Cause Cheer Extreme is the only elite gym in the country that has athletes on multiple teams don't ya know.
And CEA is pure evil and wants to destroy their athletes.

The discussion isn't about multiple teams but excessive teams. I believe that this hasn't been CEA specific, either. That was the jumping off point.

This kinda went from "who made what team" to "why sandbagging and crossovers are horrible" real quick..

I don't think it did at all. It may have drifted from the actual Teal Reveal to the issue of crossing over to one or more teams, but there is no anti-CEA sentiment going on here.
