STUNT reminds me of that new show Lifetime just tried to put on with the dance battling...I can't even remember the name of it, but it's like battling for cheer. I can honestly say, without actually attending one of these events; it looks pretty boring. I understand they have to adhere to certain regulations to try and make it a sport, but how they're running their 'games' just seems like football for cheer and I don't really like football.
I thought the opposite!! I watched some games online and got SO excited about it lol I was totally rooting for one team over the other and getting really into it. I love the strategy involved and how head to head it is.

Ah, the tanning debate. A personal favorite of mine. My dad saw my action shots from NCA Nationals and told me I needed to tan because I looked physically ill on stage. I had a spray tan and he still said that.

If everyone on your team is tanned and sprayed, you see the pale person. Your eyes just go straight to them.

I tried finding some videos online, but didn't find anything that really captured me. If you have any links feel free to pass them on.

I actually agree with this. There was a flyer once on the team who was Casper white...like worse than my CP14 white. It was the last performance before worlds so everyone had sprayed already except her (she was doing it afterward) and I couldn't tell you what the team did. She was glowing white (comparatively) and it was so distracting that I couldn't help but watch her (and just her) for the entire 2:30 and there weren't stage lights in that sendoff.

I'm not advocating Oompa Loompa status but uniformity is important. If the team as a whole is planning to tan/spray then it's best if everyone does.....unless of course that Casper white person is the bomb.com and you're trying to hide the others :) #strategy

What if we went the opposite way....no spray tans for anyone? GASP!!! Would it really be so horrible if cheer moved away from that aspect of pageantry?

It would be interesting to study what type of families and athletes the high glitz attracts to Allstar and which ones it turns away.

One of the middle schools that competed in the past in our area has decided they cannot afford a cheer team any longer. Probably five or six kids have joined CP's AS program. Ate with one of the new moms last night between camp and practice. She said CP has wanted to do this forever, I wasn't too sure about "all" of this. Some might be the makeup, but I think some, too, is they don't understand what they really do at competition or why. Needless to say, mom has been in and watched a few minutes of practice a few times and said CP is Loving it. It is killing her, but she loves going back and I think she is actually going to make it with you guys! It is so tough, but wow!!

Not a bit. As long as there's some uniformity to it, it's not distracting. My kid would love to NOT have to spray tan.

I find it hilarious that some people feel like if we aren't full-on 10 ft poof, eyeliner, bold lips, tanned like leather it means we hate the sport and the world and want everyone to look frumpy with raggedy spaghetti hair and zombie makeup.

For example: I'm a waitress in NYC. Some days I go to work with nothing more than concealer on my under eyes (I have darker circles). Some days I go to work with full-on eye shadow, lip stuff, and the rest of the kit and caboodle (although those are usually days where I've had an audition lol). Nothing changes- I'm still at my job. I'm still working with some people who are pretty horrible human beings, and I still have people who don't grasp the concept of tipping. The world doesn't shift off it's access from a bit more mascara- I'm not that special lol.

This! I'd much, much, much rather move AWAY from spray tan than I would everyone move to it. Because I am that parent that says hell to the no.

I had some kids get into the spray tan thing a couple of years ago. I wasn't a fan at all. Every one of them looked like little orange Oompa Loompas. I don't think my teams look bad without the spray tans. We don't have anyone glowing but if I lined my kids up by skin color they would cover the entire spectrum of very white to peach to beige to mocha to black.

Am I just too focused on the skills and action to notice their coloring? Serious question...

It's a lot less noticeable with full tops, and only 1 of your teams wore crops last year right? That's probably why. I sometimes use self tanner on my legs to help them out, but never super dark and they're always still paler than they are at the end of summer. I'm so glad we have full tops bc having to tan for every comp would be a pain. When we had crops it was kind of half and half on tanning so if you were pale (me) you didn't stand out so much since you weren't the only one.
