No one can answer what u should do except you. Personally I would not drive hours each week for my daughter to cheer! Some will do a couple hours a couple days a week. I see it as what it will contribute to the future in your life as an adult, do U have the time for it, how it will affect school, family life and is it really manageable for what u want. That is why we r at a gym 5 min away who do pretty good at worlds but will never b "the team to beat". U have to do what makes U and your family happy and no one else.

Parents can answer! If parents say No you have your answer. LOL

That was more my point. They are really the only ones who can tell her what is "too far."

You can ask the internet until the cows come home but unless you drive yourself or get a carpool, they make the rules as to what is too far.

If you are at their mercy in terms of driving and finances, and they say 200 feet down the road is too far to drive, you have your answer.

Coming from someone who did the same (I left a tiny gym close to me and traveled, although not as far as the OP, to the bigger gym) Id day definitely make the drive and go for it. I've made lifelong friendships, met the most amazing coaches and taken away so many life lessons. I go back as an alumni feeling welcomed and I'm so happy I made the decision to go there. So I say go for it! Good luck with your future endeavors I hope it all works out!

I don't think she said she had to make a Worlds team? Level 4 or 5 was what she was looking for... correct me if I'm wrong. Let us know what options you have (if there are any others apart from your current gym) and how long of a drive they are. 2-3 hours one way does seem like a really long drive!
yes I would be happy with a solid level 4 team. also, as petty as it sounds, I want to win. in my four years of Allstar cheerleading, I have won first place ONE TIME, and honestly it's quite sickening when you continually lose. there are a few closer options but they aren't as strong of gyms. but yes I would still look into them.

An important point to note here:

Big gym does not always = stronger lower level teams.

It depends on how you define "winning."

There are gyms that have multiple globe winning Worlds teams, but have lower level teams that don't take home top 3 every single time, let alone win a jacket every time they go out.

If you define winning as taking 1st at a comp or Summit, just know that Big Name doesn't always = teams in Levels 1-4 that always come in first.

The most successful programs GENERALLY have successful 1-4 teams because that's where their L5 talent comes from, but the win is not guaranteed.

A lot of the success depends on the talent pool at that level and age group from year to year.

I say this not to be discouraging, but I have seen kids move to "win" but end up on a team that doesn't always get a win, then they get upset.

They don't realize that having XYZ or ABC Elite across your chest isn't going to cause the skies to rain rings and jackets every time you take the floor.

The same year to year talent pool factors apply to every gym, big or small.

In all my 13/14 years of cheer I don't think I've won more than 10 comps. I cheered AS for 3 long seasons, sometimes I feel like I was in it longer than that. My gym was small when I got there, but had a team for levels 1-4. We collectively as a gym did not win everything. In my 3 years I think I won 6 comps. When I left to do HS, they started doing much better, got bought out by a bigger gym and now the walls are covered in banners...In HS, my team was not the best, and while we came close we never won, or went to regionals.

But through it all, I made my best friends through cheer, and I've learned to accept failure, it's the way of life. The world is bigger than, cheer, and it took me a long time to realize that. I am blessed to get to cheer on my dream team, a team I NEVER thought in a million years I could cheer at. And while this program is a winning team, I'm not here to get a ring, I'm here because of my education, and anything else is just a bonus..

I'm not that much older than the HS students on the boards, but I am a little old lady in my thinking. Cheerleading is not everything. You need to be cheering because it makes you happy, because you want to do it. If you love cheer you will continue to do it anywhere. Too often on the board are people obsessed with the ring, or title, or uniform. At the end of the day, graduating and going on to greener pastures is what matters.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood. I thought I read she wanted to go to worlds, which was why she was considering ACX. Disregard my earlier advice. Lol

I will say no matter what the team, program and division....nobody wins all the time! Edited to add....unless you're TGLC....Hahahahaha.

Ummmm I hope the last part isn't true.

**What if 'gun control' meant flyers had to keep their arms tight so they don't elbow the bases?**

Your team is the exception. They are going to win all the time. But, we can't all be TGLC....

There are a lot of ways to win...paid bids....grand champion, etcetera even if you are uncontested in your particular division. You're going to win all season!

I've been fortunate enough to have been a part of some good teams over the years but I never joined a program just to win. I joined because I love competing and cheerleading.

Losing does suck sometimes but winning isn't the end all be all.
