Anybody have an inside scoop on where the All Star games will be held? Since it is during Spring Break, the room prices in Las Vegas that weekend are ridiculous. I'm hoping they will have discounted rooms at the Venue.

I'm pretty sure it's Mandalay bay but I could be making that up but it's definitely a nicer hotel than last year

what is the general consensus for this competition. As a parent and/or athlete, if you have attended what do you think of it? Is it worth the price if it is a flight competition for you? Is it one you would be interested in returning to? How was the judging? The level of competition? The prizes given? The venue? I know there was some discussion in previous threads, but much of the discussion was during or just after the competition. I'm interested in hearing opinions now that the competition season is over.

@quitthedrama - here's my two cents on the All Star Games:

As a parent and/or athlete, if you have attended what do you think of it? The concept of celebrating the athlete and aerial sports has potential but, in my opinion, the overall event is still experiencing some "growing pains."

Is it worth the price if it is a flight competition for you? It was definitely not worth the costs to travel for me but we live in an area where we don't have to travel to compete. I don't really travel much - just family vacations to Disney - but I thought Vegas was very expensive.

Is it one you would be interested in returning to? Nope

How was the judging? I didn't have any issues with the judging for the all star teams. I didn't really hear any complaints about the judging from other parents/spectators, either.

The level of competition? From what I remember, most divisions had at least 4-5 teams competing. We saw quite a few gyms we don't get to see in our area. All the teams seemed pretty evenly matched, from what I saw.

The prizes given? Meh. The information packet promised a very exciting participant gift - better than a blinged out jacket - it was a collectible coin. There may have been some medals, also. Division winners scored the motherload - trophy, medal, banner, jacket; however, I think some teams have still not received them.

The venue? I have been in worse venues.

If you would like the details on any of my responses - I would be happy to share our experience - just PM me :)

How difficult is it to get invited to this event?

A practically brand new gym in our area is running around bragging about how they've been invited and what a prestigious honor it is. I know nothing about this comp so just wondered if they're blowing smoke to draw attention to themselves or if it really is that big a deal. Just curious.

I agree on all these points.

For the venue, I agree that we've been to worse venues. But, I just was not a fan of the venue at all. I didn't like the alternating performance floors or the seating arrangement.

And I agree, Vegas is not a great place for a comp with a bunch of kids. Throughout the weekend, there was alot of non-cheer alcohol infused partiers throughout the hotel and lobby (as is to be expected in Vegas lol). I would not let my 12 year old CP go anywhere without an adult. Not even with a friend or to go from our room up a couple floors to a friends room. I escorted her everywhere.

So did you see the "candy" party participants?

@Kris Definitely not a great place for kids. Our room had a light up bed and a mirror on the ceiling - we used the bed light as a nightlight. There was a lingerie-type shop right next to the elevators that we had to pass every time we went anywhere. I haven't been to Vegas since we passed through there on a family trip to the Grand Canyon when I was in high school. I was not definitely not mentally prepared for the "atmosphere".

@acecheermom I don't really think it is that hard to be invited....

I did see the "candy" party. It was......interesting. LOL

We went last season and I am not interested in taking CP there again for the same reasons listed above. Agree totally with @CatMomma and @CatFan22 and @Kris. Definitely looked to be some growing pains with the competition and it seems like this next competition is supposed to be bigger--no thanks. Also, gone is the old "cheap to eat" Vegas of many years ago. It was pretty expensive for everything there.

I went to their website today (theallstargames.com) at lunch and my pc got a virus as a result. The IT anti-virus team determined the origin almost immediately and it started encrypting my work pc and it had to be rebuilt. I want to notify them, but I couldn't find a facebook page to send them a message.

I somehow don't remember seeing any "bad things" while there. I loved this competition and it was one of my favorites. The medals trophy and banner all look really nice too. They are high quality and I am proud to look at the banners in the gym and know one is ours.
