I have heard of something similar happening. Student gets accepted to school, is all set to go there, then school contacts and informs multiple students that they have accepted too many and these students cannot arrive until the spring semester of what would be their first year. However, this notification occurred in May shortly after the first of the month (when everyone has to pay their deposit).

Most acceptances are contingent upon final transcripts. This summer a student that graduated from my school was "un-accepted" to their college because their final transcript GPA did not meet the requirement set down in the initial acceptance.

Really sounds like a difficult situation and the excuse presented is a face saving excuse. It's very possible that the parents had issues and this is what they told the daughter.

But things happen all the time and people have to go to plan b or c. Hope she can get things turned around.
