Could be, yes, but Twinkles had quite a few mistakes on NCA 2012 Day 1 so it’s hard for me to imagine they could’ve possibly been in first.

Then again, I think their division (Youth 5, want to say?) is a limited one. From what I gather it’s a division that doesn’t host a lot of teams because it’s hard to scrape up that much talent among such young kids. So maybe, as far as 2012 went, the competition wasn’t as intense. I can’t find video or results from that time so I’m just guesstimating.

ETA: yeah they only had one other team going against them and the skills disparity was pretty significant. Which begs the question of who beat them with deductions in 2011? Google is failing so hard right now.

Anyone know where I can watch videos of Worlds routines from 2004-2015? USASF's Youtube channel only offers 2016-2020 routines.

They were against Stingrays Teal in 2011. You also have to remember that there was a split in Y5 in 2012, so there was a true level 5 as well as a Restricted Y5. Twinkles were in the restricted division in 2012. 2013-present it has only been restricted (well, it is just level 5 as of this season).

Y5 has always been a tiny division; even big gyms have a hard time fielding them. J5 has become increasingly the “young and talented” division because it allows for the itty bitties and older athletes.

Yeah I found some old results and gathered there was some kind of change in 2012. Which, TBH, kind of takes some of the romance out of the doc. The whole storyline was whether or not they’d finally win NCA in Y5 after they’d repeatedly missed out. Then they did win, but it was in a different division against a smaller gym that clearly thought trying their hand in Restricted Y5 would be a good strategy and did not expect a big name team like Twinkles to move divisions.

At least that’s what I think happened. Reading old results is a little overwhelming between all the divisions that came, went, merged, etc., and all the teams jumping around trying to keep up.

The debut of Junior Restricted 5 a few years back pretty much killed the division.

The point of Y5 was keeping young higher level kiddos with similar peers, but a lot of those same kids were age and skill appropriate for JrR5 when it came out so most Y5s dissolved and I think Twinkles became JuniorR5 at that point if I am not mistaken.

    Also about Y5:

This year CEA brought Youth Elite (Y5) back.

I don't think there are any other Y5s right now though.

I'm 99% sure they competed against no one at all the major comps this season but did receive a bid to the Summit.

Not sure if they would have attended or not due to lack of competition.

YT is still your best shot. Results get a little leaner the further back you go, and you probably won’t find everything you’re looking for but it’s still pretty reliable.

I saw that too? Admittedly I don’t follow lower levels as much but I can’t think why they would bring that team back if the division is pretty much bankrupt.

Maybe it’s to accommodate a few athletes who wouldn’t qualify for JR5 age- or skills-wise. Or maybe it’s got something to do with YE being a feeder team for SE.

From what I see, they have JC6 (Crush) and an IJ4. Nothing Junior Level 5 so this probably the team for kiddos who are in an in-between spot who are too advanced for J4 but not quite ready for Crush yet. Kind of getting them ready to be Junior6 (which feeds into Coed/SE.)

From what I've seen a lot of Kernersville athletes cross from both youth elite and crush during the years they are eligible. then as they get older it switches to crush and whichever senior team they are on. CEA Kville doesn't have enough athletes to field each of those teams individually and it gives the kids a chance to learn different stunting positions. Example, if I'm not mistaken CSP's younger based on YE and flew on Crush during her last year of eligibility for both.

Yeah I think their model of cross-training via multiple teams does have value in the sense that kids get to try more than one position. Or get to be highlighted differently on another team (with skills you maybe can't use on your Worlds or J6 team.)

Ex: There are SE girls who fly on SE but base/back on Crush. Or maybe they don't tumble much on Crush but are last pass on YE.

I'm behind and catching up on the TVCC news. It wouldn't surprise me to switch up the school just as they did with Last Chance U. I personally think it would be pretty interesting to focus on both schools and the competition between the two. And fairly easy considering their close proximity.
