I'm not sure that is such a bad thing given what we know about excessive concussion but I see your point. I've never seen an athlete wear one on the floor before, come to think of it, I've never seen anyone actually wear one before.
Hmm maybe they're not common in your area but I think they're a good idea! There is a new headband of sorts that athletes can also wear and I've see some flyers and bases wear them at our gym so that the common "hit" area is impacted by the headband and not directly.

There is barely any fabric to the uni top. She is large in the chest area and there was a LOT of cleavage when she was on the floor and jumping/tumbling. I just remember being on the side of the floor and thinking yikes she's going to have a slip. There's a cutout in the front and the back so I have no idea what kind of bra goes with that uniform.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh I get it now. I was thinking of something completely different[emoji14]Yikes yikes yikes is right! Poor lil homies who can't wear supportive bras.

That could be. CP also doesn't practice at the same time as any of the older teams who would likely need this stuff more than her team and the two below it. Though a helmet and headband don't seem like they'd matter too much when you consider that the brain is still moving regardless of what is around or on the head at the time. I think I'm just too tired to comprehend their usefulness, will look it up in the morning.

The helmet is pretty thick to be honest and works really well. One of the athletes I coached in the past who is on GW's has had many concussions and always wears one after so she can safely go back to easing back into the routine.

Re:pro cheer uni! I was terrified for the girl! I would be beyond angry if I had a front cutout right above my boobs on a uniform. Especially because they probably paid a lot to have basically no coverage. :/

I don't think they are a good idea. They promote a false sense of security and will not do anything to prevent a concussion. The brain is still going to move around the same amount within the skull which is usually the problem.

Case in point, American football helmets and the incidence of concussions and CTE.

This was discussed in the concussion thread recently.

I'll copy the video link because I can't find a pic but there was a team, pro cheer, that was worse. They had barely any fabric and a girls boob almost fell out of the top :/ . I'll link it too.

pro cheer

Matrix

Matrix's back isn't as bad as I thought..still wish it was a full back though. Now the Pro Cheer uni...why not just wear sports bras? I think they would have more support!

I was just about to type the same thing:). A helmet will help prevent a fractured skull, but does nothing to prevent a concussion.

I agree with this 100%. I got a very mild concussion last year and was out of school for one week, and sat out of practice for a week following that... I went to a concussion specialist and I only returned to cheer after she gave me the okay.
A helmet would have done nothing for me. If I got hit in the same spot, even with a helmet on, I still probably would have gotten a concussion. Your brain is really not something that should be taken lightly, and it really makes me angry when I see anyone wearing one of them. Yeah, it's gunna suck if you cant compete, but it's gunna suck even more when you have permanent brain damage.

Here it is in real life

Ugh not a fan of the boys having mesh arms :( Other than that it's a gorgeous uniform, really nice tribute for Nick, which I'm guessing the hashtag #DI4N means "Do it for Nick"..

Well to be honest if everyone quit cheer after a concussion or a couple then there would be a large decline id imagine. I know it's mandatory for a lot of gyms to make an athlete wear a concussion helmet for a certain length of time before they're given the all clear by a doctor. I know a lot of athletes won't compete in them but if they have to wear it to practice they're supposed to also wear it to compete.

I feel like if I was a coach and one of my athletes had to wear a helmet to practice or compete I'd just pull them from the comp that week until they didn't have to wear it. Cuz if they're wearing it, they haven't gotten the all clear from their doctor, so shouldn't they really not be participating anyways?

I've never heard of these helmets before. they confuse me lol

I have my athletes wear them after they are cleared (they don't come back before), only with new technique to learn or when the stunt isn't yet solid. But I don't only rely on it to prevent injuries. I know the helmet doesn't save every hit you take. It's just one of the many tools I can use.

What she said k pep said! We do the same!

We don't allow athletes that are not cleared to practice let alone compete. They have to wear this when they're cleared and not for everything. It's not used to prevent its used as a tool that *could* prevent a concussion or from getting a severe concussion. It's better to hit the helmet than to hit head on.

These look like you might actually be able to wear a bra with them!
