I think it has more to do with the idea of the uniform. When I think of french maids I (and probably most people) dont typically think of it as something at all age appropriate.

I totally agree its all about how you think about things. Theyre girls in french maid uniforms, maids are ppl who clean houses. Not girls in pornos, ppl need to get their heads out of the gutter.

You response is both naive and insane. I sorry to be so harsh, but You have got to be kidding me!!!!

MAIDS clean homes,
Straight definition of french maid: French maid refers to a strongly modified style of servant’s dress that evolved from typical maids’ black and white afternoon uniforms of the nineteenth century (and their later use by stereotypical characters in risqué burlesque dramas of the bedroom farce variety). It is now often associated with cosplay, sexual roleplaying, and fetishism. Depending on design details, some forms can be classified as lingerie.

In a world where many people already associate cheerleading to a "sexual" stereotype. I sure a bunch of high school aged cheerleaders prancing around french maid unis just fuels the fire.
If what you say IS true, and you honestly think these girls put the unis on thinking only about being a person who cleans houses (or as defined above, a servant) ,..... how much do you think the title of "a servant" prancing around in a revealing uni degrades young women in an nation where women are constantly fighting for equal opportunity.

and let me add....

listen to their music.
They use the song "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap" and that pretty much confirms everything I just stated above.

My neighbor has a maid service. They wear khakis and polos. The only "maids" who wear super short French Maid outfits are strippers and women in porn. If you google "French Maid outfit" let me know if there is a legit cleaning service in the search results, or just a bunch of websites to buy lingerie.

"Uniforms" like THIS are part of what keeps cheer from being taken seriously by the general public. As a parent, I can't imagine allowing my 14-18 year old daughter to wear this.

I keep reading "Uniforms like this", and about how "the general public" views cheerleading.

I would just like to say:

1. We don't need anyone else's approval of what we do to be considered a sport.
2. I don't think uniforms are the reason why the general public would not consider cheerleading a sport.
3. The general public probably doesn't know the difference between a high school cheer team vs. an all-star cheerleading team so why should their opinion matter.

Personally, the uniforms aren't my style, but I would not blame cheer savannah and their uniforms to the reason why were not considered a sport.

I don't like when teams have "Broadway" theme routines, but I don't think it makes cheerleading less of a sport.

You say we don't need anyone else's approval to be considered a sport. Actually, if we want to be fully recognized as a sport, we do. Look what happened in CT with the court case, we needed an outsider-a judge-to determine if cheer was a sport. Did uniforms play a part in this determination? No. But could it at some point? Yes. When people tell me that cheerleading isn't a sport, one of the first things they cite is the "skimpy uniforms".

I wasn't blaming Cheer Savannah for why cheer isn't considered a sport. Go back and read. You'll see that I said "uniforms like that are PART of the reason" (I added the capitalization of the word PART so that you would notice it, since I guess you didn't the first time you read my post).

I want to also point out that it's not just the fact that cheerleaders wear skirts, or that their uniforms are small and form fitting. Field Hockey and Lacrosse wear skirts (call them kilts) and volleyball wear the Nike Pro style shorts. The difference is all the "bling" that goes with it....the bows, the glitter eye makeup, the sequins on the uniforms-which is why Stunt and NACTA are moving away from those aspects of the uniform.

Agreed. We are the only sport that doesn't wear uniforms that are practical for the execution of skills. Sports where uniforms that show their teams colors, look sharp, and help them have optimal movement and practicality. Let me note, several cheer gyms still think about this when design unis. But obviously "uniform malfunctions" are going to happen when you wear unis like the one we are discussing, and numerous other gyms unis.

Just defending the fact that we do not want to be considered a "performing art" like dance.

This is SUPER embarrassing, I didn't even know if I could handle posting it, but... yeah. :) I feel that it must be seen. Janky bow, terrible facial, painfully pale, oh and why is one hand in a blade and the other in a fist?!

I am really sick in this picture though. I had completely lost my voice.

I shimmy-ed this because I am STILL laughing out loud! The entire combination is great, but your uniform says "all that" which is really the best description for your pic.
