Yep, due to her late August birthday, she's a 12-year-old this season. This will be the start of season 8 of cheer for her.

My CP is in the same boat! Sad to age off youth, but interested to see what happens this year. Little red is (as of right now- could change minute to
Minute) staying at CEA Kernersville for season 8. Wants to stay on Jr Rest 5. Not sure about her other team. Coming off Y5, kids seem to go everywhere.

My daughter had the opposite problem, she turned 12 in Sept. 2014 and so was eligible for another year on a Youth team and she was ready to move to the next division feeling too old and constantly scrutinized for being so big on an Youth team...I saw her ambivalence and wishing placement could be based more on personality, instead of age...This might have contributed to her unhappiness...

PS: I know most of you probably think that is great being 12 on a Youth team, what is she complaining about, she can be a leader on the team? But for that 12 year old, who peer group are 13 -15, it is not fun at all and they rather socialize with their peers...

Eta: To change the age from 13 to 12, she is 13 now and grown another 2 inches...5'8

Is "fresh" better than "clean"? I was trying to at least put it in cheer terms. Again... sorry sorry sorry sorry but that's where my mind went when I heard the name. It's been a long week already-

BTW... my grandmother smoked "Eve" cigarettes. So cigarettes came to mind too.
My mind immediately thought of feminine hygiene when I heard the name, as well. I'd rethink the name. Of course, there could be some sort of sponsorship opportunities....

I was 12/13 on a senior team and I enjoyed being with older girls. I've always been one of those kids that did better with older kids because of maturity level/my only sibling is only is only a couple years older so I'm used to being around kids that age.

The 12 on senior team v. junior or even youth is really up to the parent or coach to gage if the child is MATURE enough to be around kids that age. I never felt 'influenced' by older teammates but another kid could.

I'm mostly nervous cause CP hates tumbling. Literally hates it. lol she has her bhs but (not trying to be a negative nelly over here) she's not really into pushing for tougher tumbling skills - I thinks it's a fear thing...
But she loves stunting and even mentioned she'd like to try basing on a younger team since she's 12 (until December) but of course she's stretching cause she loves to fly... Of course she's been sr2 for two years now and me and her would love to see her move up but it is what it is.
I know the reality is in this all star world you have to or should have at least level appropriate tumbling...
So with that I'm just going to take her to try outs and keep myself occupied with my phone or work or a book and not think about anything at all. Maybe tryouts will help her put her ideas into perspective and see if she wants to achieve a certain level she has to push herself and prove it to herself that she has what it takes.
This will be her 3rd year in all star and coming from rec cheer (where rules are blah, all star has been an eye opener for her and me) I've learned to bite my tongue and keep my mouth shut and she's learned that this is very different and ur not always gonna end up where u want to be or where u think U should be... The gym knows what they're doing so let them do their job lol of course I've had help from other moms that have taught me the ropes to all star lol
Yay me I'm learning!!! I WILL NOT BECOME A CRAZY CHEER MOM!!!

On another note, yes my cutie Son will also be trying out but he's still 6 so probably another year of Tinies will do him good... He loved the performing aspect but hates having to actually go to practice lol he just wants to be on the mat in front of the lights lol I can't win with either kid lol

Good thing you clarified because I was going to ask you how many birth certificates your daughter really had and then give you some other gym options that may be best suited for that

This was my CP this year. She just made the age cutoff for youth, is 5'1", looks much older than 12, and was on a youth team. Most of her peer group is in that 13-15 range too.

I shot daggers at every single person who told me CP should feel lucky to be 7 on a Tiny's team because she could be the leader---like you, I don't deny that that is the best thing for some kids, but definitely not all.

Last year I was 13 on a junior team. Honestly, it got kind of annoying when the younger kids didn't listen or try as hard. I would have liked to be on a senior team but we only had junior and open.
ETA-This year we have a senior team and I'm on it. I definitely prefer the work ethic and the attention span on a senior vs. junior team.

ICE Aurora
GymTyme IL
CEA Chicago

We had an off season this season and going to let the girl pick which gym she feels most at home with. She has solid level 4 skills and since she's finally 10 she can be on a Senior team, so we shall see! Good luck to everyone!

Me and my team competed against Gymtyme IL "SNAP" their small coed level 4 team last year and they were amazing!!!

We had the opposite problem at our gym. Seniors can get lazy and have bad attitudes at times. Our youth kids were silly sometimes, but were always at practice and easily refocused. Seniors were often out for school related activities and some of them didn't put in 100% effort when they were tired, having a bad day, practice wasn't going well, ect.

Interesting to hear another perspective. I think mainly it was a very young junior team, and they didn't have long attention spans which made it hard to get things done.

this is an issue at our gym as well with the sr team

Same thing happened at our gym. Our Junior team (who really only had a few girls above the Youth level) put in a ton of work and it showed because they did win a lot. Towards the end of the season our Senior 2 team did finally start putting in a bit more effort but never got a first place finish. In the packet this year I think they even added some additional codes of conduct relating to having a bad attitude and what not. I just don't get why you would want to do a sport where you don't want to put in the effort - especially something as hard as All Star Cheer. It's the diff between being on a Rec softball team vs a Travel team. Sure you can have fun on Rec but if you're paying the big bucks - it's not always about fun.

Though our coach did motivate the Junior girls a bit more - every time they placed first, she would do something fun for them - lock-in at the gym, pushing her into a pool at the hotel when they were first after Day 1, etc..I think they are still supposed to do laser tag and a pool party...;)
