I'm 100% sure this is exactly why we don't get gifts from aunts and uncles! I was surprised you'd get a niece uggs bc that's not a thing that happens in my family, but then I remembered that my dad came from a family of 6 kids and then had 5 of his own, and all his other siblings had at least 3.... So that's a lot of nieces and nephews that they have! :D Each couple draws another couple to buy for and all the cousins draw one cousin, and even then it's typically gift cards now that we're older.

Yeah my mom only has 1 brother who didn't have kids, so my grandparents on my moms side only have 3 grandchildren (me and my sisters ) so I'm used to growing up getting huge presents from my uncle or grandma and that's why I always give my niece (Camryn ) big gifts

But for my half siblings kids....I don't know them or the kids well. Heck I'd only met 3 of the 7 once prior to last June when I went to visit (they live in Texas). If they were closer in age I'd send board games to play together but one set of kids are 18,15, 7 and 6. And the others are 10 and 1 yr old twins so it's like what can you give to each family for all kids? I said I'd start sending them each birthday presents since Christmas would be too much, but all birthdays are back to back as well (January-July) lol

There's only one niece. She gets a present (UGGs) and her mother (my sister ) doesn't get anything. Although they wear the same size shoe so they're welcome to share, but that's on them.

I do have 2 older half siblings and between them I have 7 nieces and nephews between the ages of 18 and 1 ..... But lol at the thought of buying them each presents

That makes sense. There were a bunch of us cousins like that, so the cousins did a name exchange (draw out of a hat) and then the adults did an exchange or white elephant. :)

What's a white elephant?
It's a type of gift exchange party. It's played differently sometimes. You buy a gift and wrap it. Put the gift in the middle of the room. Then you pick a number. #1 goes first. He/she opens the gift. #2 goes next that person can either pick a new gift or take the gift away from person # 1. If that happens person #1 opens another gift. Then next person goes until all the gifts are opened. Rules are usually set before like how many times a gift can be stolen.

It's super fun. White elephants are especially useful for work parties, class parties or team parties where there is a large amount of people who know each other well, but not super well. The gifts are usually pretty comical or extremely practical. Like, you would bring something that anyone could use but that they might not buy for themselves. I've gotten a shower radio, gift cards, soaps, socks, utensils. My mom once brought an entire BLT sandwich kit. Great stuff.

We played it like this, and had a three swap limit on the gifts. But then #1 got to again at the end and keep their gift or steal any available one.

I did that once.

My history teacher used to do those in class, they were my favorite!

Anyone have any WOWing gifts for young girl's? I was writing down my lists yesterday and I'm not loving any of it. I know my girls are going to love it all, but there is not one single gift that I am excited to give them. Ideas?

What about signing them up for a kids cooking class or craft class or workshop with tools that you can do together and will sneakily give them quality life skills? Im all about seeing kids in the kitchen or working with tools at a young age because the people of my generation are HELPLESS let me tell you.

I got a set of baking tools when I was about 7 or 8 that I could call my own and its still one of my most memorable gifts. Obviously you have to give up some of your time to supervise them but then later on you can use them as your personal baking slaves whenever you want cookies :) a win-win, really.

I apparently got a cleaning set when I was about seven. I hate cleaning now. But my dad always teases me when he sees kid cleaning kits in stores.

I'll have to see if we have any of those types workshops around. We do a lot of cooking together, and cleaning @Alexx ;p, but none of it is really their own stuff. I think I saw some Kid's baking stuff recently---I'll have to hunt that down again. DH is a mechanic and does a lot of wood working on the side---5 year old took his tools this week and disassembled my alarm clock. I'm scared to give her more tools...

at 25 all of my "WOW" gifts looking back were memories and not things (well, okay, they still costed my parents $$;) ). One year my gift under the tree was a backpack with a bathing suit and a ticket to the bahamas (surprise family trip) - I realize that one is elaborate and $$$ and was planned very much in advance; The family also has gotten tickets to a broadway show or some "On Ice" event or a sporting event. My parents say those were there favorite gifts too, for the looks on our faces. I know CP and DP are younger so they may not appreciate this yet but something to think about, especially if it's not something your family does often!

though I realize these kinds of gifts aren't quite as exciting to "unwrap" christmas morning...

Those are cool gift ideas. We actually don't do birthday parties yet because we do experience gifts, a weekend away with some sort of attraction. CP got Disney on Ice and a night away in Orlando with a place of her choice to eat, DP got Legoland and a night away as well. My sister found a cool place with snow in Georgia we're considering piggy backing off of----if not, I need to hunt around for the shows coming to town or things we can do.
