Jamfest Europe is plenty popular...

To be honest its not THAT popular if you put it side by side with some of the larger american competitions itd look like a regional. But seeing as here in the UK we dont have that many competitions, of course we think its huge! The way i see it is Jamfest Europe only has events in the UK, they might aswell call it Jamfest UK. I think they are trying to increase the reputation of the Jamfest europe brand by having a huge cheer team come over, and really get there name out as being a fanatastic competition in not just the UK but the whole of europe! Theres no denying that our 'international' competitions in the UK have hardly any non UK teams competing, hardly an internationals. This is a great way for jamfest to get to the front of the internationals race and have an event that really does attract teams from all different countries in europe in all divisions. I also think this is the first step there taking to have competitions in many european countries not just the UK.

If i was one of the american teams invited to take part I wouldnt have second thoughts at all. Its going to be an incredible experience for these athletes, coming to europe from america is expensive! Ive just returned from traveling around america your flight prices are ridiculous!!! I dont think jamfest has anything to gain in america with this event, even though it will be fantastic to watch, I think the real gain is the positive effect this visit from an amazing american team is going to have on their european competitions and reputation.

Sorry for any typos, Im really tired lol

Of course it isn't as big as American competitions, we have a lot less teams in our country who compete than they do. I think the main reason we don't have many international teams at our competitions is because of the cost of the trip.

Yes. I didn't say "There are NO athletes or parents who know anything about this." I said not all. The HANDFUL of moms I spoke to were not aware, and neither were their children (athletes on these teams) of the details of this event - mind you none of them go to CA, so I would assume BlueCat has done a better job of conveying the info than the gyms I was referring to.

I think most of you are looking at this as coaches and fans. I'm looking at it as a mom. As in "the person who has to pay for all this" - so no, a trip to Europe wouldn't necessarily be tops on my list of prizes (fully paid or not, it's going to involve some kind of money). And having an extra trip to Indy just casually thrown in might be something I'd like details on, especially if it was NOT for a Worlds bid. Now I live in Chicago, so I can travel to Indy TODAY if you ask me to, but we're talking VA, NJ, TX here. When you start talking plane tickets, missed work, missed school, hotels, etc. I'd like to know why we're going. But maybe that's just me (and maybe it's not...since that's what the people I've talked to are freaking out about.)

I did not intend for my response to be antagonistic, but it seems to have been taken that way. If so, I apologize. I was simply trying to answer your questions.

I cannot speak to what other gyms have told/not told their athletes, but I do know what 2 of the 10 teams knew. We had meetings with the athletes and parents, told them everything we knew about the event (which admittedly was a bit limited at that point), and let them decide themselves if they wanted to attend. The hotel and flights costs we found for us were very reasonable - particularly compared to Worlds. The athletes and parents were nearly unanimous in wanting to go.

How do you fight for Allstars to be considered a legit sport when we can't even get a handle on which competition makes you the real NATIONAL or WORLD CHAMPION. Enough trying to re- invent the wheel. How about trying to make the competitions that we already have better. It seems all about the $.

I also think that whilst Jamfest Europe looks smaller than US competitions, the UK is a much smaller country. I've been both years, and it's grown massively already - the venue this year was probably 3 times the size of the venue last year.

Plus, it attracts almost all of the TOP teams in the UK (come on Unity and Goldstar, get to Jamfest!) so it's great to watch. !

Yeah, I'm personally excited to see any of the USA teams listed above come to Europe, so I think its a GREAT idea!

Unfortunately, I think this sport IS all about the money to some extent. I really don't want to open that can of worms though.

I agree that there are far too many "national championships." I think that makes us look silly. However, this event is not being promoted as either a national or world championship.

Exactly!!! It's promoting the sport by showcasing some of our country's best teams and allowing them to compete for something new. Its NOT a national or worlds title. We have plenty of those.
Winning a trip to compete in an international competition is unlike any other prize. Who's going to be THE team (teams?) to represent Jamfest America?! It's exciting because it's different. I love it and I can't wait to see it play out.

I would like to see how many winning teams actually make the trip . That would be an expensive road trip.

I agree...USASF Worlds has become enough of a capitalist carnival as it is....I do like the exclusivity of The Majors, however...It at least gives off the impression that they're genuinely looking to honor the best of the best in the two divisions they're offering instead of collecting a profit from several hundreds of teams.

I know the SS were invited and they declined. I don't know the specifics but I can't imagine it's money or scheduling. Those girls love the titles and glory (as would anyone) and I don't think they'd pass on the opportunity to be the first champion of this exclusive event if there wasn't some other underlying reason to say "no thanks."
