You know I have always wondered this for a good while. For all high school sports you must have a signed physical on file every year to participate (even our color guard had to have them). If you didn't get it signed and approved you didn't participate. Why is it that the USASF doesn't require their athletes to turn in physicals to prove that they are healthy enough to do what they are doing?
If they are going to say "oh I am doing it for the safety of the athletes" then why are physicals not required?

Also I don't agree with the fact that taking those skills away hurt a small number of athletes so it is no big deal. If it doesn't hurt that many athletes then clearly there aren't that many injuries from it. I hear about more broke fingers from stunting then I do torn ACLs from the elite tumblers. Once again they have released these rule changes and not even mentioned working on fixing the coaching situation. I said it before and I still feel the same way, I have LITTLE to NO faith that the USASF will ever fix this problem, because if they wanted to they would have started already.

If gym owners, coaches, athletes and parents agreed to Athlete Membership then I believe the USASF could be able to track athletes, but some people think that it is just a ploy for more money. Not the case, it's to encouarge research and to track record of physicals, have a record of injuries that occur at ALL USASF events and to encourage fair play when it comes to athletes ages.

I think that it all comes down to since we don't have a more specific and stringent certification system in place the insurance companies will not insure certain skills anymore....what do you guys think?

I don't think that it will take years to implement. I just don't think it will be completed by the start of next season.
I'd have a lot more faith that they were moving to improve things if they would say something to indicate that this is something they are looking at doing.

I agree. We have a 15 year old on lazers for worlds because we lost a flyer and I don't like it. And i constantly tell people to not say what they are thinking. This is why i love that international will be capped at 17 for both levels.

I think it should be grouped better by age/grade.

Why don't you like it? Does it just not look right?

for smaller gyms

for smaller gyms, its not like there is one poor little 10 year old on a team full of HS seniors. on my large sr 3 with 28 kids only 6 of them are too old to be Jr the rest are between 10 and 14. Now am I naive enough to think that the 10 year olds never hear anything that they shouldn't be hearing? of course not. Do they hear the same stuff from their older siblings or the kid across the street or on the bus ride to school? probably so.

Would you have me kick those 6 kids out of the gym because they are too old? or have a sr team with 6 kids on it?

I put this on the A.S.G.A. Facebook page:

I'd like to thank the USASF for single handedly denieing my child the opportunity to attend Worlds until she is out of High School. She is currently 14 in 8th grade and turns 15 Sept 23. 3 weeks late to be on our International Coed 5 team. This wouldn't be so infuriating if it were not for the fact that this same thing happened to her before in 2009.

IT IS TIME FOR NEW LEADERSHIP!!!!!!!!

I am completely done with the USASF!

Could you go to a different gym that has a Senior Age team for her?

Did anyone else read this as "Keep your dirty laundry in the house?":

While fully respecting and appreciating each individual’s right to freely express themselves,
it is imperative that those who are involved with the USASF on an official basis or project
conduct themselves constructively and professionally with respect for their peers working
within the organization. Based on the developments that have recently transpired
regarding these rules, the USASF will soon be issuing its own standards of conduct relative
to official work being done on behalf of the USASF. To hold an official position, including a
USASF committee position, the USASF will require that members discuss and address these
issues within the organization’s official structure.

So this is leading by example?

I understand your frustration, especially if this is the 2nd time this same situation happened to your child.. but it isn't exactly the USASF's fault that you chose a gym with no senior division level 5s.

If this year ONE of the big 3 in lrg sr DIDN'T have a standing or running to twist punch double, yes, I absolutely think it could affect placements. Same with any div actually. If any team HAS them, it's an advantage.
Panthers don't have any skill that has been removed from next season's rules and as long as they hit, they have it in the bag. I don't think full punch doubles or one to fulls are helping anyone in that division.

I feel so bad for this group of kids :(. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the exact same group of kids that they did this to already.

And it isn't her fault there is no other gym that I as a parent trust her to go to where I am.
