Unfortunately the experiences that teach us the most in life, are often very unhappy experiences in the moment. My CP learned that a few years ago at NCA.

She had been fortunate and went for a couple of years without ever suffering a loss. They worked hard and earned their success always remaining humble and exemplifying good sportsmanship. But then at NCA they came up against a sandbagging team that had Level 5 athletes on a Level 2 team. The rules were different then. What the team did was not illegal. They exploited a loophole and felt no shame in doing so. They had a grudge against our coaches and the athletes suffered because of it. Worse yet the other gym was very vocal and arrogant in their actions.

My daughter's team performed well but ultimately took a close second to the stacked team. They were crushed and there were some tears. This was unfortunate but also a learning opportunity about life for our athletes. Albeit a bitter pill to swallow, they remained good sports thru it all. They walked the halls and traded shirts and pins. The went up to everyone they saw in an NCA jacket and congratulated them on their win. They didn't complain but their hurt couldn't be hidden from those they knew.

What they found in return was so unexpected. Athletes from gyms all over showed so much love. Some athletes offered to donate their jackets to individuals on our team. Others provided comfort and offered words of reassurance to team members. I was so touched by how sympathetic and caring everyone was.

There were other teams that reacted very vocally, confronting the offending gym. We would have fathered

We felt fortunate to be shown such support by so many individuals. In the end we left NCA feeling like we won because we lost. Given a choice we would have liked to get first place. But, we took home so much more by losing than we ever would have by winning. No jackets but in reality we were the winners. The other gym took took home jackets, a trophy, a bad reputation and the knowledge that they showed the cheer world what they're made of (and it wasn't pretty).
In the end categorymembers.

Exactly my point. Your CP's team earned respect from others and a lesson that sometimes the win doesn't mean that they actually win... Sometimes a loss is an even bigger win, in the end, and our CP's learn much more with that experience than that other team did by taking home an NCA title. They learn the 'rights and wrongs' of the world and so much more through wins and losses.

They do "Herkie High Point" for each level 1-4 and then grand champ for 5 & 6. I kind of wish they did high point for 5 & 6 too and then took all into consideration for grand champ.
High point winners were
L1 Woodlands Elite - Rangers (LJ)
L2 CAO Elite - Celebrities (SS) (highest % perfection of whole comp)
L3 Laredo All American (SS)
L4 Georgia All Stars (SSC)
@CAOElitefan may I ask how this was bullying....?

I was at the JFK Museum Monday and a man that I think may be a coach for that team was behind me. I wasn't sure at first if he was a cheerleader or coach, but he said his team was senior 4, but didn't say if it was co-ed or not. He was kind of short and balding and I think he was with his mom. They were so friendly!
hahaha yes! That one of the head coaches and gym directors in Charleston, Kyle! they're the best :)

I'm not sure if you're saying "Huh?" to me or the rating, but I got a bullying rating on it and was just confused about how any of that could be taking offensively, especially by someone who's a fan of the gym that I was saying should've gotten grand champs.
Oh I was confused on both, LOL. Was trying to figure out why someone would think that was bullying too.

I've seen a lot of unintentional ratings given on the board lately, and I've done it myself. I know when I'm on my iPad, I scroll on the right side of the screen and have accidentally hit one of them.

I agree. A lot of wrong ratings going around. I got and gave one too but it was fixed. @King I think we need bigger rating buttons for our big thumbs!

I feel like maybe they didn't have to deal with the stress of traveling. Now I'm no expert and maybe some did drive hours to the competition. But I feel like traveling is so draining! So maybe there is an advantage because of that.

Personally I feel you're disadvantaged when you have to travel for competition. After this year at NCA , I feel even further disadvantaged by having to utilize the housing authority for my accommodation. I did as instructed booking thru housing and ended up in a nice hotel in the middle of NOWHERE. I was 15 miles from downtown Dallas. Nearby DART they claim. We tried getting to Dallas via DART. The train wasn't bad at all. One train transfer and an hour later you're at the Convention Center.....:.when the train is running that is. My CP performed around 9:00 pm both days. The first night we had to wait for two hours in the cold for the train (last one of the night at that). Finally arrived at station near hotel only to learn hotel shuttle wouldn't pick us up. It was late, dark, too far to walk, no shuttle and no taxi in sight. We finally reached a cab company that would come pick us up in about half an hour. On a positive note we did meet some Dallas residents that are mighty colorful characters.

What is the percentage of titles won this weekend per number of teams that attended? Looks like 40% of Cali's teams brought home jackets. How did CA & Stingrays do?

ETA: it's very impressive to bring home the number of titles all of these gyms brought home. Congrats! Very impressive work out on the mat this weekend!
