All-Star How Far Would You Travel For Practice??

I have drove up to 3 hrs for cheer and up to 6 hrs for gymnastic. I pretty much had the same rules for her as most of the long distance cheer moms have for their girls. It seemed crazy to everyone else, but my family could handle it, so we did it and we've never once regretted our chocies. :)

I give my daughter and all the other cheerleaders that spend hours in the car a lot of credit.... You all know how much sacrifice it is to be on an all star cheer team.... Now magnify it again 3x. We just started Sunday practices.... My cp is in a carpool with one other (thank god) and she needs to leave the house on Sunday AM at 7oo am to meet up with a ride. Her practice is 10-12. The other athelete has practice from 11-1. Cp is not returning until around 4 pm. Thats a long day for a 2 hour practice. That totally takes off having sleepovers on Saturday nights or doing much of anything on Sundays. She gets on her bus at 625 am and then gets picked up from school and goes directly to practice returning around 12 midnight.
She loves what she does and never compains. She gets excellent grades and is a hard working cheerleader. People say we are insane and they are probably correct but as long as she is happy, I can not take the opportunity away from her.

How old is she?

My cP can never have sleep overs either. She is in the gym Saturday morning and Sunday evening. She has a shirt that says " I can't I have practice" so fitting

I need 2 of those shirts. One for each of my daughters. LOL :)

I laughed at all these posts. I drive like 3 minutes! that's right, 3 minutes, not hours! We might not be the best gym ever but I'm happy where I'm at and couldn't image leaving.
To get to the biggest gym in my state which would be Gymtyme, I'd have to drive probably an hour and a half. But my mom already drives an hour to work everyday, so she couldn't handle driving home an hour then just driving right back. We don't have the money or time.

Our 1st season in Texas we were driving up to an hour (an hour and a half with traffic) to go to Cheer Athletics...loved it but it took a toll on our family and gas budget. Last season we switched to Spirit and will be doing our 2nd season, Arlington gym is 15 minutes from my house...Coppell is 30 minutes.

Fly? Seriously? Can someone please explain this to me? I just don't get it. This is going to sound snarky, but it's not meant to be. Why in the world would anyone fly to cheer? It's not like you'll go pro and make a ton of money cheering. Gyms can't possibly be in that short supply, even if you live in Nowheresville. I get that people want to be on the "best" team but why not be great on a good team and have a life? Again, this is a serious question, not a snarky judgement.

Most of my athletes have about a 10-15 minute drive to our gym (some less because they're enrolled in our after school program and get picked up hehe) but I have 3 that travel from an hour away 2x a week, 2 sisters that are 45 minutes away and come 4x a week, and a new mini level 1 that drives 2 hours from another state 2x a week (I know, I was like whaaaa? Lol). We aren't the biggest, best gym around but we def have some loyalty (those kids are never late and never miss--imagine that!). And we don't practice on the weekends. M-F only.
It surprises me when people pass numerous gyms to attend ours bc we aren't CA, Cali (or Yo Mama) but it also is encouraging bc I know I've done a good job with my program if people are sacraficing that kind of time to be a part of it.

I'm never going to say never, but i feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything that needs to be done, done....and that's driving 3x/week 20 minutes each way. i literally couldn't imagine driving more than 40 minutes each way. i think that would be my threshold (my cp is 8).

Granted I often wonder if our current gym doesn't grow with her in the next 5-8+ years, what would we do? heck, what do i know, we may change jobs and move before that ever happens, but man...

To the parents that drive 2+ hours each way...do you have other children? are they in any activities? i have 4 kids...and i already feel like our world is revolving around the cheerleader...LOL! would i see my other children if we were driving her to and from 3+ days a week, 4+ hours round trip?
