I know it's for 2020.

I wish they would go back to 7. But I think the 4 and 2 option will help out some small programs and give other countries more opportunity to go to Games.
I just can't get on board with the "give other countries more opportunities to go to the games". I don't want to see the equivalent of a level 8 gymnast from a weak gymnastic country at the Olympics. I want to see the best gymnasts. Many other sports have a minimum score qualification to even get to the Olympics, why should gymnastics have to include athletes that clearly don't belong there? It just irks me.

I don't. A country that can't qualify a team of 5 sure as heck won't be able to qualify a team of four.

You need to understand the "4 for team and 2 specialist" also helps gymnast like Krisztián Berki (HUN) - a multiple world champion and 2012 Olympic champion on the pommel horse. He happened to have had a bad day at this past Worlds , but because Hungary didn't qualify a team to the Rio Test event... Berki is out of Rio 2016, just like that.

People keep saying they want to "see the best", so many talented gymnast come from countries where they can't field a strong team but can field very strong apparatus specialists. This new format will help with that, at least if you had a bad day at the Worlds right before the Olympics, you get a chance to qualify as an apparatus specialist during the test event... unlike now, if a country's team doesn't make it, only the all-around athletes can fight for a place at the test event.

But it's not all about the team. I think this will allow other, talented gymnasts to qualify because there was either not a spot for them on the team or their country couldn't qualify a team.

So, I'm a Republican and work for a conservative news website.

This being said, if I were a parent and a coach asked my child to pose holding a sign for ANY candidate of any party, I would yank them out so fast heads would spin.

Instagram

ETA: If Chow (or any coach) wants to support ¡Jeb! (or Bernie or Trump or Santorum, or Gilmore), that's fine, but why the heck are the athletes involved?

Oh sweet niblets. Is anything sacred anymore? Even gymnastics? And the fact that its Chow makes my head spin... as a high-profile coach, that last thing you need to do is integrate politics with your work. At all.

The parents must have been in an uproar over this.

I can't even get mad about the Chow thing. I'm working under the assumption these kids had an option to participate

My child would have known better. I'm sure Chow would have known to not even come to my kid with such bs

But I mean I had to google whether or not Chow was even eligible to vote

She wasn't very motivated to begin with... so I'm not surprised. Romania's WAG team will need all the help they can get without her beam and floor routines.
Yeah I'm not that surprised either. Hopefully this will help Romania realize they need to spend more time developing their current athletes and juniors rather than relying on former Olympians to come back and save them

I can't believe for the first time since the Comaneci era, Romania's WAG team may not have a podium finish at this year's Olympics...
