Lol story of my life! Everyone tells me to wear leggings under my pants to walk to the train for work etc. Um... OK. But then I have leggings under my pants all day. Not cute, or comfortable. I just freeze on the way to the train for the sake of all day comfort.

I know single digits with -15 wind chill is nothing compared to the north, but that's too cold for me. Thankfully I'm pretty much required to wear sweatpants to school, so I can comfortably wear leggings under those without it being too noticeable. I'm terrified to go outside right now though. All of the public schools are either closed or delayed today, but of course universities don't close.

Luckily my university is closed again today. I have to work, but not until this afternoon. And by then it's supposed to be above 0. And I'll be wearing sweats to work today. No one is coming, and I'm cold. They'll have to get over it.

literally frozen, subways, streetcars, and every other mode of transport is delayed because of how cold it is and the schools are all still open in the GTA. like school my jacket, headphones and toes froze in seconds of me stepping outside. like no, no part of that is okay with me, i would like to not be canadian and move back to cali please.

ETA: my school just posted this on facebook "Students are encouraged to contact instructors directly via Canvas to confirm they are able to make it to class safely today. Please check with public transit for delays to avoid being left out in the cold." like you think maybe you should just cancel classes?

I just saw the most ridiculous news story in Florida. It's 59 degrees. The reporter was explaining how she was bundled up to stay warm and that you needed to keep your feet warm. Then she lifted her foot to show these dog ugly ski boots circa 1982. That had to have been her mother's. It's not that cold!

Lol I live in Jacksonville FL and it is currently 22 degrees here this morning. Some counties have even cancelled school because some schools down here don't have heat. Us floridians get a little crazy if it drops below 60 ;)

I posted this in parents, but I'll ask here too. Could use "younger people" thoughts on this.

My child, who is 11, bought herself a new phone. She now wants a Tumblr. I don't know anything about tumblr or if it's appropriate.

She's a very introverted, nerdy, super smart kid. She's not into celebrity/cheerlebrity/dancelebrity type people. She only has a small circle of girls she is close to, and then friends from dance and volleyball that I think she would follow (that's what you do on tumblr right? Follow?). She likes things like Dr Who and Minecraft, Irish dance, ballet, and volleyball.

Thoughts? Tumblr an OK thing for her to get?

Signed,
Old mom who's just now getting the hang of Twitter :(

if you do allow her to get a tumblr please please make sure you monitor who and what she follows. even some people who are fitness or cheer blogs have reblogged some extremely sexual content so please be mindful of that, even simple things that can be searched for in the search bar like allstar cheer have turned out the usual results cheer extreme and the like but also the sexualized cheerleader have tended to pop up. personally i would maybe see if she would be willing to hold out at least a few more years.

if you do allow it please be mindful and monitor the people she chooses to follow.

Double post but my favourite hockey player isn't on team canada cause he's hurt and needs surgery (and the teams terrible anyways but) I'm just gonna go cry into my pillow now

...lol jk I'm in class and crying in public is socially frowned upon

Tumblr can have a lot of cool and funny things on it but there are a lot of inappropriate pictures that can pop up. Like I've seen some pretty crazy GIFs that people that I follow reblogged. I think as long as she is really only following her friends and like minecraft, dance, volleyball accounts she could be okay as long as her friends don't Reblog the sketchy GIFs lol. But they way you described her I think she could find a lot of cool things on tumblr that fit her interests. If you let her get one I'd watch who she is following!

What? No added "ay" to the end of a sentence either? So disappointed!
We talk fast in NY as well. I think the Aussies talk the fastest though.

The only time I use eh* is saying something like "this class sucks eh?" kind of like a question or "yeah eh" when I'm agreeing with someone.

I would consider selling my soul to have 59 degree weather. I'd be in a bathing suit tanning!

I never see anything really inappropriate on my dash, although there can be cuss words. But other than that I don't see any inappropriate images or anything. Mostly I see cheer, Darren Criss, harry potter, etc etc whatever I follow. You may want to watch who she's following though every once in a while. Doesn't sound like she'd be following anything bad though.
The doctor who fandom is all over tumblr so she'll appreciate that... I've never watched Dr. Who in my life but I know so much about it just from the blogs I follow, which aren't even necessarily Dr. Who blogs. I see a lot of dance on there too.
I think there's a way to block tags so if someone tagged something "porn" then it wouldn't show up on her dash but I'm not sure how you'd do that. I don't have that blocked but I never see it so I really don't think it's a big concern, but I know stuff like that does exist on tumblr.
ETA Apparently I'm in the minority with pretty much never seeing sexual stuff but then again I basically follow a bunch of nerds so that's probably why

Tumblr can be a wonderful place for people to interact with others that like the same thing that they like, but as everyone else said there can be some inappropriate content because of the different ages of those that use the website. My best advice is to install tumblr savior onto your browser and to blacklist things that you wouldn't want your daughter to see. Or you can instal X-kit on your browser and they have extensions like CleanFeed, Blacklist, or Postblock.

Happy tumbling!
