There is always exceptions but for every amazing kid I've seen twice as many dangerous ones. I should clarify that I am talking more from experience with competitive gymnastics then cheer. I know getting rid of the division won't stop the kids from doing the skills but it will stop gyms from having a team of 5 amazing kids and 10 almost killing themselves. Put the talented ones on a youth and then let the others work on their skills on a level 2.
Honestly I could do without Mini 2 and 3. If a kid is determined and focused enough to get their BHS at 6 they are focused enough to be on a Youth 2. Keep Tiny/Mini 1. JMO.

I gotcha. I could agree with this for the most part. I'm not a huge fan of Mini 3 myself honestly and I would be for eliminating that division entirely. But if they don't eliminate it, don't restrict it. And I am completely 100% against restricting Youth 5.

What if...
Sr 1 you could do single standing bhs, straight ride baskets, and half level 1 leg stunts
Sr 2 extended libs, single non twisting trick baskets, and jump to one bhs
Sr 3 and up remain as they are

Our Mini Level 1 program is responsible for Teal this year at our gym. They are so much better than JUST flipping and twisting and it is because of where they started.

No touching Level 1 please.

I would only suggest those changes to level 1 if the proposal to allow jumps to handspring and extended one leg stunts at level 2 and 1 trick non twisting baskets were to pass.

and my suggestion would only be for Sr. and it would be only a single standing bhs, no running

I still think get rid of senior level 1 cheer.

I don't know that it will really have an impact either way, keeping or getting rid of Sr 1. I only remember one Sr 1 team from all of the competitions we went to last year. It was hard enough to find competition for our Jr 1.

but if they do change sr 2 to include extended one leg stunts, then I think they should change sr 1 to include prep level 1 leg stunts. Its too big of a jump to go straight from thigh stands to extended one legs.

our gym has an half year senior level 1 team && i think it would be silly to get rid of it. you don't need a BHS to be a cheereleader

no, you dont. but i guess it is just hard for me to think that is a thriving division for seniors. i understand current senior 2 for new people over 1. if senior 2 changes and allows extended lib flying then i will understand senior 1 again.

Í would argue that Senior 1 is actually growing. With more emphasis on majority tumbling as the years have gone on, less and less teams are trying to hide those level 1 athletes in higher level routines. I can remember about 5 years ago that NO ONE had a Senior 1. I think we're seeing more and more of them now. It just makes sense to keep it, because if we're focusing on proper skill progression with 7 year olds, why shouldn't we do so with 15 year olds?

Since some of the posts are talking about getting rid of Senior Level 1 and limiting their routine times, why not have a "pre team" division. I find many gyms provide half year, pre team, performance or just beginning level teams which some of these are. Why not offer this divsion as an option? I do think there needs to be some type of outlet for these beginning teams and lumping them all into Senior Level 2 is not the problem. Anyone who has gone to bigger nationals have seen the HUGE amount of Senior level 2 teams. Sometimes I think this division along with youth and junior level 2 are to impacted and large in size. Just a thought.

This is an interesting idea. Except how would it be different from level 1? What rules do you have envisioned?

I agree. Every gym has a couple of prodigy-ish 5 and 6 year olds with tucks, but a whole team of them? Not likely. I've seen mini 3 teams with terrifying tucks (and sometimes no tucks at all) and then they throw these terrifying full baskets that make you want to run on stage and "save the babies"... and do not get me started on the single leg stunts..

Mini 3 is just not necessary. I mean every one loves to see that "fierce little kid" doing "fierce things"... but I care more about the safety of the kids.

Keep in mind, there is a mini 4 division, though I don't think anyone's competed in it in a while. Axe that first, I'd say.
