I was just gonna ask if someone has moved to be closer to cheer. I'm thinking if my CP gets REALLY good and I would have to drive 3 or more hours 1 way. Heck I think I would move!!! Somewhere warm & with great cheer gyms:p

We are actually in the process if that now. Cheer isn't the only reason tho. My job will be closing out in the next 12 or so months and there are no jobs here so there were other things cheer just happened to fall in there :)

To the parents that drive 2+ hours each way...do you have other children? are they in any activities? i have 4 kids...and i already feel like our world is revolving around the cheerleader...LOL! would i see my other children if we were driving her to and from 3+ days a week, 4+ hours round trip?
Me personally,I have no other kids. My daughter is my only one and since my husband and I had 10+ years of married life and we both had 15+ years in job force, when she came along, I was able to retire from my job and as we say, she became my job. My daughter did many other activities, so if we had to drive, we made sure that all 3 places where around each other. I'm not saying it easy, but we made it out, a happier and stronger family. :)

I use to cheer at a gym that was less than 5min away, but after the season ended I moved to one that's 45min-1hr away.
Best. Decision. Ever. I love it here and the coaches are great!
I will be eternally grateful for my parents who are willing to do such things for me! :)

We moved 500 miles away from home to cheer for Twist & Shout. :D

was that the sole reason? or did it just luckily work out that way? if you moved for cheer, i applaud you for being so understanding and supportive. my parents hardly ever even wanted to come to a competition.

100% totally for cheer. My husband is self-employed and I coach and have a secretarial background so we knew we could work wherever we lived.

I don't know how you all do it. We live 5 min. from my CP's gym. I work full time and have other children with activities so if we had to drive further than 15 min. it just wouldn't work for our family. Lucky for my CP her gym has worlds teams, and well qualified caring coaches.

two seasons ago I drove about 2 hrs to coach voluntary. Now that i moved back home I'm about 30-45 mins from my gym and i constantly have kids parents complaining about there little 25 min drive. This area lack in the dedication that other areas seem to have. I envy the gyms with that dedication.

500 miles? where did you move from? and this is not meant as anything negative about TnS, I am a huge fan... but I'm just curious as to why you chose Twist and Shout over other programs. (There's a good chance I would too, I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason)

We moved from Illinois (in the St. Louis metro area). And originally we were going to move to Stingrays or Cheer Athletics knowing that they were the two biggest gyms in the country. We felt that that would give our girls the best opportunity at success in their sport. I have a brother who lives here in Oklahoma and he kept telling me there was a christian owned gym here named Twist & Shout and I should look them up. I insisted that Oklahoma doesn't have good cheerleading and being a "christian" gym they probably wore skirts down to their knees and babied their athletes for fear of hurting their feelings, etc. etc. Well I went to worlds for the first time that year specifically to watch Rays and CA and while I'm sitting there T&S comes on the floor. I was absolutely awe struck at what I saw. I felt they were just as clean and creative as Rays and CA and if they were truly a christian owned gym then that's where we wanted to be. We made a trip down here, met with Orson (the owner), the girls worked out with the teams they would be placed on and we fell in love right away. We put our house on the market and moved a month later. Crazy, I know. haha But 4 years later both of my girls have won NCA once and my oldest CP also has a world championship ring. :) I definitely believe we chose the right gym and couldn't be happier. :) So there's my psycho cheer mom story. haha

I'm pretty sure Mclovins going to have a wonderful response to this but I thought I'd add, twist and shout is one the the most respectful gyms ever. The whole program as a whole! I remember at nca going to take a picture with the team for iclasspro and literally everyone on the team was so kind and didn't mind one bit!! & that stood out to me so much that weekend.

That's actually amazing! How old were your girls when you all moved? That is so awesome that you were willing to do that for your girls. That is one of my favorite things about Twist and Shout too. I remember my first year cheering 5 years ago I googled Twist and Shout (along with like 20 others) and remember admiring how openly Christian they were. It is awesome and I remember seeing bible verses on their website. How awesome :)

Thank you. :) My girls were 7 and 9 when we moved. This is our 5th year here at T&S. We can't imagine being anywhere else. :) And most of the staff is genuinely christian believers. They walk the walk and talk the talk. That doesn't mean they aren't tough and in your face at times, but it's a great mix of the two. :)
