Gym-run events have been tried many times. Typically, other gyms do not want to compete at these events for fear of conflict of interest. When the person running the event has a vested interest in some of the teams competing, the impartiality of the judging is naturally going to be questioned.
Example: Cheersport, that's why you don't see Charlotte competing there.

Can you elaborate a little more about your example? I don't know the story behind this.
I was just using an example to support what BlueCat was saying. Cheersport was started as a fundraiser for Charlotte. Since it has grown to the size it is it would be a conflict of interest for a gym that is run by the same people hosting the event that's why you won't see Charlotte competing there but often time you'll see their athletes and family's working/helping. Hope that helps

I think you probably understand that I'm not talking about a new competition company started by a single gym. That would have limited potential. I do not understand why the gym owners and staffs do not pool together and create their own series of competitions on a local, regional, national and worlds concept that crowns champions of the world in all levels and ages. They have the talent to pull it off, and I think they can pool and get the resources if everyone was given an ownership opportunity. I think they would have massive buy in to the concept. The gyms control the athletes and where they go to compete. Immense power in that fact. Just throwing stuff out. I think this model could very well get away from the entry fee and go to the spectator financed either with live or via Internet feed. A lot of potential out there running programs going to waste in my opinion.

looks like the majors will start at 8:30 saturday according to the general schedule that was just posted.
ugh;/ half hour later now. this stinks becauuse i have to be up at 5;30 the next morning! i know 8:30 isnt late, but if i wanna watch all the teams and everything it would be late.

i didnt know that! that's actually really interesting!

Okay, so Logan lives in Maryland right? Why did she quit and why did she tryout for WC? That would have been a long drive

Logan lives in Pennsylvania. She drove 3 hours or 3 hours and 15 minutes each way to practice.... World Cup was actually closer and I think about 2 and 1/2 hours from her house. I think she quit for personal reasons.

I'd love to agree with you but gyms can't even agre on age grids. Could you imagine the "owners" discussing a score sheet!? That would be like a newb asking why Juniors aren't allowed to compete at Worlds lol. I hear what your saying and I like where your going but I'd see the problem being the money. As much as we all say it's "all about the kids/cheer" I could see major issues when it comes to who pays what and who gets paid for what I'd that makes since?!

Of all the gyms and event producers I know, they would be ones I would trust the MOST not to let their gym's interest affect the rankings. (It would be difficult to find a more honorable, trustworthy guy than Kevin Brubaker.) However, they choose not to because they fear the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Actually, to my knowledge, the only major event producer that allows its own gyms to compete at their own events is Varsity. While I have not seen examples of them getting favorable treatment, I am VERY surprised that more people don't get upset about the potential conflict of interest.
