SO sorry I'm tardy to the party- if I was tagged it got lost in a sea of tags/notifications so I missed this.

You have a multitude of options based on your boyfriend/you/finances. You could go the touristy route, the half-touristy route, or the locals route. There is still PLENTY to do/see in NYC in the wintertime, make no mistake. Lots of the museums are actually 'suggested donation', so when they try to charge you $10 you can give a penny if you want (in college I gave a quarter). Double check prices online (I love the Met- seriously fantastic and most specialty exhibits are free). There are TONS of shows, and if you want something specific check TKTS or do student rush/lotteries (I'll give you more on that if that's an interest). Skating in Bryant Park/Central Park/South Street Seaport. I sometimes will walk on Broadway from Downtown/FiDi to Union Square. You basically see the changing of the neighborhoods from FiDi to Chinatown/Little Italy to SoHo to USquare. Is there a specific food he likes? There are foodie walking tours. All the typical monuments. Max Brenner's for chocolate. Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar to see me :p The Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. The stores in SoHo/the West Village should still be decorated for the holidays so it's fun to window shop there. Specific shopping you want to do? Times Square is worth it just to experience, but it gets overwhelming. Hell's Kitchen has AWESOME restaurants. If there's specific cuisine you want to try I can give you recs.

Give me an outline and I can tailor you something more specific if you need it. I should run a Fierceboard NYC Tour Company :D

We went a couple of years ago for a join birthday trip - but it was Labor Day weekend and nice out. And I went again in December last year or two years ago for a day trip. Things we did was walk through central park, check out times square, catch a broadway show, bryant park, visit Grand Central station. We also went out to the US Open in Queens, but that's not really relevant to you.

I'd love to do the statue of liberty some time.

Also, Max Brenner is a chain, so if there's one closer to you (we've gone to the Boston one a number of times), I'd skip it.

That is worth 1,000 shimmies. congratulations and good luck!

thank you so much!!!!

so to avoid double posting - i remember there was a thread on here (or maybe a post in this thread?) with all the regional dialect maps... well now it's a quiz. everyone on my Facebook feed is posting like "north jersey, obviously" because that's how we all speak... so i take it, assuming I, too, will obviously get north jersey. it says birmingham, alabama. ALABAMA!!!!!! i am born and raised, pure new jersey. i am having an identity crisis. like what?!?!?! no way. i'm so confused. (no offense to anyone in Alabama with an Alabamian accent, it's just... I'm from New Jersey. anything non-Jersey is a travesty.) i think they might kick me out...

Also, it's Christmas Eve and I'm at work and I have work I should be doing and I'm not doing any of it at all. Instead I'm surfing the internet and pulling together all of our statements for a mortgage application. And hoping a home inspector will get back to me to schedule an inspection.

@njallday - I got Boston, Worcester, Providence. So yep, that's pretty much spot on!

I KNOWW it's so right for everyone.. so i must really speak like that? i checked each answer with the map and Mary, merry, and marry and carmel and caramel being separate words and differently pronounced is what got me. but they are? I blame my proper grammar skills.

I answered both of those questions the same way. Mary, merry, and marry are pronounced differently, and caramel is carra-mel, yo.

I think the bubbler question gave me away.

Also, we have no drive through liquor stores here.

Wait you call it a bubbler in MA too?!

How do you pronounce Mary, merry, and marry differently? (or which one is different?)

Ha! I actually was going to tag you in that post. It's unique to Easter MA and Wisconsin. We're the only parts of the country that call it that.

But it's actually a "bubblah" - don't forget we like to drop our Rs.
Hahah that's true! I never knew any other state called it that. But I think only the southern parts of WI call it a bubbler. The guys on my team from more up north (closer to MN) think we're weird for calling it that.

I'm not sure how to spell them out phonetically.

Mary kind of rhymes with Dairy.

Merry is meh-rry.

And Marry is Mah-rry, where the ma is kind of like the ca in cat.

Mary is completely different than Merry and Marry, which are pronounced similarly, but are still two separate words.

Merry is like berry.

Marry and Mary is a slight difference, but for me I feel like I say maaarry, with a more drawn out 'a' sound... kinda. Hard to describe lol.

I took that text the other day when it started popping up on fb and got Boston, Worcester, Providence which isn't shocking. I feel like I've taken this before, but I love things like this and find them interesting so it's fine.

I got Reno, Fremont, and Corona (California and Nevada.. fitting as I was born in Oakland, CA and my mom is from Santa Clara, CA and my dad from Los Angeles, CA)

We say them like this in England (or at least where I am from). I took the test because I have nothing better to do, and got Honolulu, San Jose and Fremont.

I got aurora, Overland Park, and Tulsa. Which is weird because I live in the Midwest and think people here talk weird.... And most of my individual answers gave me the east coast, which makes more sense?
