Programs being successful opening multiple gyms is in the eye of the beholder. I know some families that have seen their programs expand to multiple gyms also feel that the quality of the services they have been receiving at their location have diminished with the addition of new locations (i.e., the talent is spread too thin).

I can certainly understand that point of view. Fear of getting spread too thin is the main limiting factor for our expansion. There are dozens of potential strong locations out there for new gyms, but we couldn't maintain the quality we want if we opened gyms more quickly.

The staff quality thing works both ways, however. Career-minded coaches want to be somewhere with at least the potential for advancement. Many times, the best coaches also want to eventually have other professional responsibilities and the ability to one day run a gym or a national-level program within an organization. They often want to make a higher salary than is possible from standing in front of teams all day. You stand to lose out on many a great coach if you don't have those management-type jobs available. They either leave to start their own gym or never join your staff in the first place.

Bottom line, you may "lose" a great coach to go run another gym, but having those types of jobs available in your organization may allow you to recruit 2-3 great coaches to take their place.

I know you have several successful locations, so I am wonder what advice/suggestions you might have for a consumer who is looking at a gym that was bought by a big name gym that is expanding (not yours). I am curious if there were the things that you are glad you did as you expanded, and what you wish you did differently . My friend is feeling very cautious about committing to a gym and asking me for advice and I am trying to figure out if I am missing anything to tell her

Regarding advice for joining a "big gym": The various "big gyms" are different from each other with their own personalities, styles, and cultures. There are positive traits in each one and I would recommend nearly all of them to most athletes, but I don't think there is really a blanket recommendation I could give without knowing who it was.

I have been very pleased overall with our expansion so far, but there have been things we wish we had done differently in every location. The main thing is that finding a building, signing a lease, getting permits, and getting open takes much longer than you anticipate. I wish we had started the process sooner for each, so we could have gotten information out earlier.

The best advice I can give is to find out as much as you can about a potential program ahead of time and try to find one whose overall culture fits your athlete's personality best. Every program is different and no program (even ours;)) is a perfect fit for every athlete. Be aware that every program is going to tell you how great they are, and most programs will NOT have nice things to say about their rivals, so getting unbiased information is tough.

Are you all so thick that you spent 2 pages talking about teenagers tans, after it had already been addressed and dismissed numerous times? You're watching World Champion teams and looking at their skin color? I just rolled my eyes so hard it physically hurt.

Whomever is going to CA Charlotte to cheer is going to be lucky to have Tye Hill as a coach. Wow! What a wonderful addition he will be....
I love Tye so much! And Derek Davidson is a great addition to the CAC team! Tye, Derek, Logan Sheril (woodlands), Angela Rogers and Gianni denegri all coach me at Dynasty when Gianni opened the gym in around 2006 in rockwall I think it was? Great coaches and even greater people! You're lucky to have tye, Angela, and Derek @BlueCat but I'm sure you already know that ;)

I've taught those more times than I can count, but obviously never tried either skill. I'm not sure whether to just be happy no one got hurt someone or irritated that my feet came apart in my twist.
Haha it looked perfect to me ;)

Oh wow I went through and watched all the videos of the coaches flying, that was great I loved it! I'm cracking up at everyone's faces, and Jody that clap clean was amazing lol.

I loved watching the videos, that's awesome! I always think its awesome when the coaches/owners/staff stunt. I've only seen one of our coaches stunt since I've been at our gym and its so fun to see!

I'm just laughing at that fabulous clap clean. Well done. :D

Those videos are amazing.

Sidenote: I have not done a whole lot of tumbling or stunting since college cheer out of the occasional jumps and maybe a BHS here and there.

Like 2 years ago, I was getting rather frustrated during a private re: a full. She was not twisting quite fast enough and I kept showing her the motion she needed to make and it wasn't clicking.

I was like "I'm just gonna throw it because she is not getting it and if I do it, she can see what I'm trying to say."

So I threw it. Landed it.

The next day, I called in a sub and had to go to urgent care.

Props to you guys if no one ended up having to call in sick the next day!
