It could have been a fake. Still no proof.
My questions are:
What counts as legitimate proof? Provided by either coaches or parents? Pictures that are timed/date stamped (can you forge that, I dunno?)..School yearbook photos? Birthday party photos? Notarized birth certificates? Drivers license? Passport? The last 3, sure. Would any of the others work? Potentially OTHER things as well?

I agree that as a parent, I have no real way to get a notarized birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport for someone else's child to prove they are ineligible. (I feel safe in assuming that if I ask the parent of the child that was cheating, they probably wouldn't hand it over to me to turn them in.) Unless a previous gym kept that child's notarized birth certificate, how would any other gym have proof of an ineligible athlete's age? I think that is why it ineligible athletes are so rarely reported. It isn't that people don't know the athlete is competing. It's that the accuser does not have access to proof of age.

(Suzie could have started kindergarten at 4 because she was super smart or she could have been held back three time, so just because you have her senior picture in a year book doesn't mean she is 17.)

I think providing a school picture would be enough proof to demand further documentation from the athlete. Fine your kid started kindergarten at 4. Then just send us a notarized birth certificate to clear things up and put the issue to rest.

Not that this could be provided right at the comp, but Facebook posts clearly showing the athletes age? Most kids have their b-days posted (not the year) so a screenshot of that and the "Happy 20th Birthday" or "Happy 11th Birthday" posts? This should at least prompt further investigation into the athlete's true age. Sometimes it even reveals a coach's knowledge of the athlete's true age as well.

Everyone has access to obtaining a certified BC if you are a legal resident of the US. All that is required is for the parent to contact the office or even vitalchek.com to order one. This has to be done by the parent no one else can do so.

Can the parent request that it be sent somewhere specific, only I don't know if I'd want my birth certificate randomly floating around anywhere? Then it becomes, well if you get the certified one, what's to stop you from passing off another fake one to the people requesting it?

I truly respect CA and my CP watched the first Worlds on TV and stated that they wanted us to move to TX so they could cheer with CA. Unfortunately, we couldn't move that far.

As for a response from USASF...there was none and still to this day nothing has been replied to. The coaches of our past gym acted like they cared but didn't want to stir the pot too much. Why is this sport so dirty and corrupted. I gave proof to the coaches as well and yet nothing. Disappointed in how everything gets pushed under the rug. Eventually someone is going to trip on the rug with all the crap underneath it.
I did get the information. It is specific about a team (not ours, thankfully) and it does list a specific athlete.

What it lacks, unfortunately, is any "proof" of the athlete's "genuine age". I'm not sure what exactly would count as "proof", but stating that you "remember what her birthday really was" doesn't rise to that level. I am open to suggestions for how to legally find out someone's real age given their name and city they live in.

It is important to note that this does not mean that the accuser is wrong or that the gym is innocent, but merely that there isn't sufficient evidence to move forward. Unfortunately, there are many cases where someone probably cheated and has gotten away with it despite people knowing about it simply because there was no way to prove it.

If you know their actual birthday because they were talking about their sweet sixteen, but you can't prove it. Can you look up the public records for the area they live in? They may have had a legal issue. Or can you find out when they were issued a driver's license or if they've received a ticket?

Here is the point of all this that I don't understand. CA and Rays have both publicly admitted that they have had issues with kids stating they were the wrong age. They rectified these situations IMMEDIATELY. Dear parents, why aren't you holding your gyms to a higher standard? No, you don't know the age of EVERY athlete in your gym, but lets be real, chances are these things are discussed (if your cheating). To my knowledge my gym has never been in this situation, but I've heard of other gyms in the area with "questionable" athletes. So you are hearing this in your gym, STEP UP! I've seen many parents on this board speak of how they know it happened at their former gyms and that is why they left, why are there still people there? What are you teaching your kids? Cheating is ok, and mommy and daddy support it.

My point exactly yojaehs !!! The cheating and such is exactly the reason we left said gym. What are we teaching the kids...yes you can cheat now and you will cheat yourself through life. Wouldn't want you to learn life lessons that you can loose while being a part of a good thing. There is no such thing as loosing. We win everything including the battle to cheat. Turn the other cheek and you see nothing.

I refer to the parents at our first gym as having the battered cheer parent syndrome. They know things are bad, complain all the time, but never leave in the hope that next season it will be better. I think it takes a very strong person to speak up to a coach or an owner about something illegal being done especially if it is not on your own cp's team. You also have to be willing to stand by your words - will you actually leave mid-season after laying out countless dollars and investing countless hours if they do not take that athlete off the team? While I would have no problem opening up my mouth now I know I would not have said something if it was in my early all-star parent years.

we were told only a birth cert would be accepted, we had year books, birthday party invites other non legal info

Well I am in no way attacking you personally but that is a 100% cop out in my book. If you are a paying customer you have a choice. If you feel that much pressure that you don't feel comfortable to open your mouth then you are definitely in the wrong place. I bet if the parents bill was $5 over they would have NO problem confronting any and everyone. I'm sorry but there are millions of different tactics that can help deter cheaters by EP's but there is one way to STOP it, and that is by PARENTS leaving the gym, that doesn't deter it, that STOPS it.

That's ridiculous to think someone would have a copy of an athletes birth certificate. Only way is if the athlete had cheered previously at another gym and that gym is the one making the claim. I think things like yearbooks should be enough to start a process of further investigation.

I think this is the most important point of all and one I was discussing with a friend just yesterday. I think parents get so caught up in the hype that they just look the other way.
