Maybe where I disagree is that I think our sport IS comparable to gymnastics or at least should be in regards to judging, legalities, sportsmanship and the like. Soccer, football, golf, hockey...all those other sports are won or lost based on a score that you cannot contest (unless of course the refs are making bad calls) but you know what I mean. Cheer is very much like gymnastics and figure skating where our judging is more subjective and involves the "opinion" of the judges more so than an actual fact based score. I personally would like to see us get away from that. I want to see our scoresheets be more objective and fact based (which I think the new Varsity scoresheet is TRYING to somewhat make that happen). But anyway, I think one of the reasons the world LOVES gymnastics and figure skating is because it is elegant and professional in nature. The girls are looked at as "perfection" on the floor and they are expected to act as such at all times. I want our sport to go in that direction.

Those other sports are also not an all day long event where getting squads on and off the floor determines the success of the event itself. Like it or not, excessive celebrating/encouraging before and after a routine does make a day longer. And we all already argue that the judges have too much on their plates as it is...[/quote]

TOTALLY agree with you on that..(bolded) and i think the excessive celebration is redic as well, BUT, i don't think that these rules and changes are fully thought out and won't have the desired effect. i'm afraid it's near impossible to change the cheer culture to fit within most of our comfort zone. Esp when you look at the vast diversity there is in cheer. in gymnastics and skating we (most people are only exposed to the elite, the best. a few times a year. not saying that all gymnastics and cheer aren't like that (remember Tonya Harding, and Nancy Kerrigan saying disney 'sucks') i'm just saying we truely see the elite within those sports...and as we all know at Worlds, thanks to more bids than we know what to do with, we're not always seeing the 'elite' and sometimes the elite isn't what we think it should be

Since the USASF is slowly ruining the sport I fell in love with & wanted to continue with throughout my life, I guess being in college and studying for a real degree doesn't seem so crazy anymore...

I think there are alot of assumptions being made - it only states EXCESSIVE pre & post. No where did I see that a team as a TEAM couldn't come out excited, wave to the crowd, get in their spots, perform their routine, give each other pats on the backs and hugs when done, exit.

This sport (unlike gymnastics) THRIVES on crowd support. So why do things to stifle it? Especially in the name of legitimizing it as a sport(???). There are plenty of other sports that encourage crowd interaction that we can be just as easily be lumped in with. With regards to post celebrating. Look at golf. Probably one of the most mild mannered games. But when Tiger makes an amazing chip, do we expect him to wait to get his ball out of the cup, exit the green, then fist pump?

If there are indeed obnoxious acts that are causing problems, I think they can be dealt with, without a huge umbrella policy.

The Sixth - but that would involve directly calling a program out and placing them on public blast. Something that they have been very reluctant to do. If it is/was a higher profile team could you imagine? the commentary? That is why a blanket policy, while harder to enforce actually is better because then they can say that the offenders were warned.

Personally I think some of it is overkill, (High 5?) but I can deal with the policy on celebrations. Looking at where they are trying to go, I get it.

Either people need to embrace it (what Varsity/USASF) is doing or another option needs to be made available. Time is coming where we are all going to have to choose.

Perhaps better would be to name three teams that would of gotten them this year with that rule in place.

As long as it is legal, I have no problem with it. No passing laws then retroactively looking to enforce them. But if someone is double dog daring to do it, why not make it part of the fun!

I agree. I just love the oops gotta fix that mindset sometimes. Makes me wonder who complained...

Tonya Harding...oh my! lol I get what you're saying. I really don't think a team is going to be punished for hugging a teammate before or after they compete. I really believe the spirit of the rule is to prevent teams from overdoing an entrance (and those teams KNOW who they are...) or from a team or individual from over exaggerating their celebration after they finish and again, those teams know who they are. My CP locking pinkies with her BFF on the team and giving her a hug before taking her spot on the floor...I just can't see them talking about something like that. I hope I'm right...

And about these three "sessions" on Monday. Do they plan on evacuating the building 3 times on Monday and then only letting the ones who paid for the next session re-enter? Sounds like a clusteryouknowhat

My thoughts exactly! So if I pay for all three sessions, I have to get up out of my seat, leave the building and stand in line to get back in?? What happens if I hide in the bathroom? lol
