My cp has a head full of curly hair, I have straightened it prior to the poof and the pony because it is hard enough to brush through already with the curls and I thought teasing would be a disaster to it but maybe leaving it would help with the poof? Any experience with natural spirals anyone?
I leave it all curly and then tease it. Because the separating of the hair layers make it frizzy, ill spritz them with water again before putting it up, and then again after

I agree with the person who replied first. Jaylens hair is curly. I leave it curly it teases so well and it's like a natural fro. I only straighten the layer that lays over the teased mess.

Then do you also go through and curl the end pieces or just use the natural curled ends? She is only 5 so I am trying to get a plan in place because she hates having her hair touched!

I actually don't have any ends. The whole section I take out for her poof I pin in the poof lol. It keeps the ends from being added to her ponytail which as her ponytail falls throughout the day it doesn't pull in her poof because they are separate.
I do straighten the rest of her hair though and then curl it. I don't really do a good job and put little effort into straightening is so I use very minimal heat just run it through her hair quickly to get it kind of straight. I use a curling wand for the curls and if I curl her already curled hair it looks weird because they are different types of curls so I straighten first.

Great, thank you so much I am going to experiment! I only have a week!

Girls with short hair, do you wear headbands or bows to competitions? I'm getting my hair cut soon and my coaches said that I would have to wear the headband. I was just wondering if they stayed put or if they were hard to deal with.

I still wore mine half up half down with a small bump. Every other girl had a pony so I was still a little bit different, but it looked more uniform with the rest of the team than a headband

Perks of being sick two days before comp: had time to reread this entire thread. Let's hope all goes well!

Questions: When I do my pouf, it ends up looking like there's space between the teased hair and the normal combed over hair if that makes sense. It doesn't look as full. Also, for the teasing powder/dry shampoo it only goes on the roots? I think this will help my hair but I'm not too sure how it would get the whole pony bigger if it's only at the root. Hope you guys can understand this!

I would recommend teasing the normal comb over hair just a little, just enough that there's added texture, but not so its a crazy rats nest.

Ok, CP has naturally curly/wavy hair. Last year I was so happy because we did curls. It curled easy and stayed. This year, straight ponies no bump or pouf. Her hair straightens fairly easily but it gets frizzy and "poofy" with any amount of sweat, sometimes it does it for NO reason. By the time she hits the floor after warm ups and waiting in the venue it is a mess. What can I put on it before we straighten it to keep the darn stuff straight and keep the little hairs in around her face from frizzing out??

Use gel on her baby hairs. Straighten everything and do the pony. Then take gel and slather it on the hair on top and behind the ears (basically everything except the pony). Use a fine toothed comb to brush it all back towards the pony. It should look slicked with lumps at the pony. Take the pony holder out and smooth those final lumps, then put the pony holder back in. That SHOULD hold baby hairs.

A a hairspray designed for humidity may help with the pony. I always spray hairspray onto my brush and brush it through the ponytail.

Question! When you use curlformers, can you still tease the curls to give it that "Big hair" look? In the past, when I have used them I didn't even think to tease my hair... but its been a while since I have last done it...
